Of course it will... generally the players who are always on and have no job or school to go to.

I need to read up more on game theory, I think Evony has destroyed all current theories on it. And no, game theory has little to do with actual games :P

I'm actually using the situation to my advantage against someone who has been raiding my alliance. I'm attacking his lakes, he then attacks me, so I sell all my food for .001 one the market.

Logistically at this point I have a huge advantage. Plus this is my smallest city and it is nowhere near my main ones.

EDIT: Too bad the server is down so I can't see the result for a while!

Long term solutions do not work real well when the game's rapid and broad sweeping changes cause half a dozen of your best members to go inactive on two separate occasions in one week.

And that doesn't factor in the more every day problems of people just getting board, moving on, or becoming distracted. Make a plan that depends on other people, and you increase the likelihood of catastrophic failure because they wake up one morning, send 50k ballista and a bunch of transports at an NPC town, and lose 2 weeks work.

Complexity isn't a virtue in and of it's self, particularly when a company's policies are making long term reliable people harder and harder to find.

PvPers will do the scorched earth thing, pulling down everyone they can in the area. Carebears will turtle up and be pretty much invulnerable. Both will quit when they figure out they haven't done anything new for a couple of weeks.

This game is pretty addictive for 3 weeks or so, and getting pounded in that time motivates a significant percentage to buy game coins to try to stop it. Players who stay for several months are not necessary for long term profitability.

In fact, can anyone tell me they really expect people to continue to buy game coins after they have built up for two months? Long term players become powerful, and thus do not require a purchased advantage. That makes them server space of zero value. Why cater to them at all?

OP, the poll questions given are biased, of course.

The answer is "Just Play The Game."

Of course you are right, "Just Play the Game" or "Quit" are ultimately the only two choices. My point was just that for those with large armies that need support, the choices for long term success are more complicated. The mentality of "Farm or be Farmed" won't hold up long term, I'm just trying to get people discussing rather we have gotten to a point that is unsustainable or are there other strategies for continuing the current game trajectory given the new changes to NPCs.

Well this thread is 2 months old... I can tell you that your prediction is correct... Protection comes in the form of what alliances you have... and how close of an alliance your members share... the end result of this post has been shown...

If said 90k prest attacks me 50k prest to try and farm me... IF they can get past said defenses... I request a more powerful if not equal number of members in my alliance close by to attack him...

One strong player can't hold out against 5 economies attacking him alone... and no one in said's alliance is going to support him, attempting to farm for his own benefit...

Analogy: You don't give your friend a dollar when hes already spent his 3 for something he wanted and you still have yours.

    Necro'd thread but still relevant.
The question now is how do you keep alliance members motivated enough to keep playing ? Either they are new to the game and still in the first enjoyment of it all, which is fine, but they have no real military strength. Or they are seasoned campaigners who are finding it harder to justify the time it takes just to farm enough food for their army.

Sure, you can turtle up and rely on others to defend you, but what is the point in the end? We all know that it is impossible or too costly to beat a large city with a strong defence. Declaring war is either suicide or a foregone conclusion that you will win.
I farm my npc's and build more archers which I will lose on the next level 10 npc I try to capture. Then I will go back and repeat the same process, making some minor modifications to my towns or defences as I go.
Meanwhile I am bleeding experienced members and having to take on new players just to keep the alliance active. It is getting to be a mystery just where the designers intended this game to go.
    PEACE

    Thumbs up

Agreed. I am finding that I am spending less and less time actively playing. At this stage of the game I log on, send out NPC farm teams and stop playing.

I then wait until maintenance reset (or 8 hrs) and do it again. Maybe demolish a building or something just to feel like I'm playing, but ultimately the interest levels just aren't really there.

I've decided to do this (and occasionally participate in alliance wars when I can) until Age 2 or October, whatever comes first. If no Age 2, I'll give cities to new alliance members and probably quit. If Age 2 is here, I'll see what it is all about before deciding.
