Alright smarty pantes, can anyone think of a real historical example where generals marched all their artillery and archers into the infantry of the other army? Or a siege where the attackers moved their archers and catapults right up to the wall?

There is no way to get around it, the idea of firing a stone from your catapult, moving it forward, firing another one, moving it forward, and so on and so forth is ridiculously stupid. Artillery batteries do not charge the walls.

actually wasn't a big reason that we won our Independence from Britain in the Rev. War was because we didn't follow the British and stand our troops out in front of them. The Colonial states used guerrilla tactics to defeat the British. It also helped having them marching in nice columns dressed in those nice red coats.

Actually alot of our military leaders wanted to march in lines with our own equally gaudy coats & lob shot at them... We however had a large amount of irregulars who didn't exactly work with the conventional militias, which practiced guerilla warfare... which wouldn't even be coined as a term for another hundred years (coined around 1808 btw)... but this is a tad offtopic...
