Well it all really depends what we are assuming, now lets say Age1 Were Merged into Age 2.
Lets Assume that they would be compensated for there heroes, so they will be set back to lv100 heroes, however they will be given several materials and gems to really get some bang in there, heroes. Except Those with Lv1000+ Heroes to end up with Lv10 Gear and Gems for say LV12 or 13 Star Set +, If not just given that.
Lets Look at they Key Changes.
Upkeep reduced by 50% + 25% more with Full Heroic Companion.
Now this will make it easer for Age1 Players to handle there troops, however they must get used to longer range farming, there isn't any npc building that they are custom to.
This however is really minor and doesn't do much.
Lets Look at Gaining the facebook factor, There are some nice things there, Free Warhorns, Penicillin, Speech Texts, Free Amulets, in the end however overall these don't really make much difference, Besides Heroic Companion more advanced AgeII Players don't really need Facebook buffs, they will collect some of it but its far from a game changer.
Here is were the Age 1 Players are going to Suffer, the Changes to the combat system.
AutoHeal .. Welcome to hell Age1 Players, this may seem like its a advantage but now your going to find that your cavalry are so much more useless due to this, add in the fact so many warriors come free due to historic cities you will be rarely clearing for a Cav Smack.
Also note that your going to have to smack layers some times with 10 waves before you can start on tradefire waves.
Leadership.. The Limit to troop commanding means heavy turtles defences end up having less life on troops and being more cost effective ratio wise compared to tight defences that have just the right amount of troops.
The Split Damage Rules.. No More 1,1,1,1 Layering you actually have to beef up your layers to the right amount, this changes a lot of things.
Basically the changes in the combat system will take some getting used to and will leave age1 players at a disadvantage, Auto Heal is going to have to make them hit a lot more aggressively and reinforcements will become even more of a pain then there used to.
Other Factors Such as the 30min Declare War Means nothing as that isn't in effect when your alliance declares wars so it means nothing.
Colonization and Uprise Battles are only going to be something that means more on earlier age2 servers in the low end of player.
There isn't to much difference from the top end of AgeII and AgeI, several factors make them both hardcore at the top levels, should AgeI Players come into AgeII they change in combat mechanics is going to leave them at a massive disadvantage at the start.
They will also have to deal with very well coordinated enemies, that due to Historic Attacks can Plan Several waves hitting a player target on the same second without problems.
Auto Heal will leave them stunned as they will find it makes cavalry so much more useless unless the enemy is dumb.
Good Age1 Players Should be able to adapt fast and only be at slight disadvantages.
There Shouldn't be to much difference in troop counts due Instant Troops making the difference up, overall both sides should have strong armies.
The Middle Ground will be the ones that have to rely on facebook more to keep up with the age2 players, auto heal will be devastating to them.
They will find there troop counts to be slightly lower then AgeII Players
The Low Ball of Players will prob do the best, the change in farming will suit them, combat mechs won't mean crap to them so it will basically be same for them except they can get more of a helping hand.
However there troops counts will be at a massive disadvantage.
Now Lets Look If Age II Players Moved Into Age I.
For Starters Lets Assume that those with high stars and attack will get decent level trade off heroes, this should be a given.
There is only really one Major Difference between AgeII and AgeI besides heroes.. Farming, Since Newer Servers have the Attack Button.
So Here is What's Going to Happen.
The Top End of AgeII Players.
Most of these guys are farming a fair bit, they really shouldn't have problems adapting to more farming given the fact they can surround them selves with NPCS.
Those Top end Players have Historic Cities so even on the earlier servers there used to hard out attacks and losing there cities, they might not have as much experience in barbing cities as age1 players, but they should be able to hold there own.
The Change in Combat Mechanics will be welcoming to AgeII Players, without auto heal there attacks will be a lot swifter and they can use pretty much all combat knowledge from age2 to translate into age1.
Overall Age2 Top Players Going into Age1 should do fine.
The Middle Ground Players will find them selves struggling slightly with food , but they should manage to get used to it, they however will find the change of pace to work against them, those from newer age2 servers will handle it better, but those from na1-19 will find all there cities open to being taken a lot more to deal with, they will have to get used to defending all cities.
Middle Ground Players will find them selves in the crapped, they will have to adjust fast.
As for the Low Ball, well they have no chance, the causal players in age2 will get crushed in age1, there is no doubt about it, they won't cope, players like japanpimp won't last 1 week out of BP.
======
So Overall it really depends on what skill level your looking at, having player both AGE 1 and AGE 2 , at the top ends there really isn't much difference in them, Age2 Players will find them slightly on top due to combat mechanic changes made, They shouldn't have to many problems holding there own.
However towards the middle grown and at the Bottom the Age1 Players will come on top, they age2 players simply won't be used to the change of pace.
Age 2 is soft at the lower levels, esp on the older servers, those on newer servers won't really have any problems but those on na1-19 middle-ground to low will get crushed.
In the End it Really Depends on the player, Both have different Advantages, I Think they key aspect is that Age2 Knowledge will roll back into Age1 without any problems, however Age1 Knowledge has several limitation involved in Age2 that will make players have to relearn a lot of combat tactics.
Besides knowingly combat tactics and game mechanics the key aspect is team work, and its something learned on both Games.

On a Side note if the Age1 Players Came in With the Mentality that all Age2 Players were soft core they would get crushed very fast.
