Cloning food may have side affects we have yet to discover. Or if you have seen true Blood the Vampires didnt like the synthetic blood so they killed humans. It could be same concept.

I've read the books the show is based off of, so I don't really need to. Plus, only certain vampires kill humans. Most of them take enough to get by from several sources.
Anyway...my point is is that they would be smart enough to figure out another solution to their food crisis.
