    Some things are just rude, and problematizing them doesn't make them less rude. Using the term "instinctively" in this context suggested I lack intelligence. That's why I took offense.

    If disagreement is a sign of a failure to instinctively grasp, know that your ideas about groups and individuals disagree with those of Conrad. Who is instinctively failing to grasp whom - you or Conrad?

    I think perhaps it is wiser to admit that there is no such thing as a single correct position rather than suggest that there is a sole correct response and that all those who disagree are merely failing to properly understand it.
