    Default Are we idiots?

Looking back on this whole fiasco, I think we just proved ourselves to be idiots.

We freaked out and somehow came to the consensus that ranged started to move in combat... seriously how stupid can we be?

Any person with a brain would have just attacked a valley filled with melee with archers and warriors and they would see that warriors die first even though archers has a faster speed

Honestly if I was a dev I wouldn't listen to a single thing this community has to say, I mean we just proved how idiotic we can be if left to ourselves.

Maybe they purposefully didn't tell us the patch notes to gauge and see if we were smart enough to adapt and figure it out...

Though I do feel bad for people that lost thousands of ballistas, they could have given a simple warning as "ballista farming won't be as easy tomorrow" or something along those lines.

But anyways its quite funny how we all thought the devs made ranged move and how they were retarded for the change and knew nothing about combat when the only thing that changed was ranged on walls rofl.

I mean the change does make sense somewhat... higher walls = longer range for defenders, no?

I've been very entertained by all the histrionics since the patch on the 1st.

Good point...but they still overdid it a bit I think. Walls are now nearly unbeatable...sort of reminds me of the bug they had in a game called Ikariam where you couldn't breach the walls to get an offensive bonus. Kinda makes it a defenders game.

I think maybe they need to rework the defensive units power-wise...theres simply no beating them atm if you have enough.

I think a good fix would be that defenders cant use battering rams on defensive and battering rams can only be offensive.

Battering rams btw are AWESOME in breaking defenses if massed. A rainbow or a cheap meatshield wave helps too.

You can rest assured there are devices in works to assist with wall destruction. The patter the Devs are (now) taking makes absolute sense: defense THEN offense. As it was before, there was Offense with no defense.

What I would very much like to know is what the actual impact the walls have. I hate game mechanic shell games.

I don't think its really a shell game as much as it is left up to us to figure the mechanics out. That's how exploits are found anyway. Like I said, on another thread, the walls probably have a base of 10% per level added to fortification range. The damage doesn't seem to be increased from what I've seen.

In defense of those who were mistaken about the change in battle mechanics:

Hundreds of players woke up to find that a significant percentage of their ballistas had been destroyed. So, yeah, there was a lot of confusion and frustration because people did not know what was going on. Adding to this confusion was that there was no word whatsoever that UMGE had made a change to the game. The latest official word from them was from a post several days earlier about increasing the range of rockfalls, which wasn't causing the losses.

Also, keep in mind that the explanation that range had been increased based on tower level came out several hours after these boards lit up, and after people were exchanging theories on what was going on.

So I don't fault the community at all for getting some of the theories wrong and some of them right, especially when even running an experiment risks a lot of your troops.

Hindsight is 20/20. Anyone can read a patch release's notes after it went out and say, "Of course that's what it is." But trying to figure it out when getting the data risks hundreds or thousands of your own very expensive troops is a completely different ballgame.
