Thread: Is Evony a PvP game?

I watched an Alliance member have his Lv. 9 Main city get barb'ed.
I will give up all my army to get him back his city.

    Yea, he is gone.

To the select few who became invincible from unlimited resources? Sorry about that. Learn to get along with the other invincibles. The other 99% of the community need to know we aren't cannon fodder because we didn't milk the resource train in time.

You are not convincing me. Wiping out City Defence is a big to do in this game. They are built using one barracks. Single wave take downs of cities need to stop. That guy won't have 20K Archer towers up as fast as you build a Ballista force. Not with multiple varracks.

Losses? They come with war. Unbreakable armies means Armies only get bigger and biger and bigger.
I can well imagine seeing a battle report telling you you are out 90K Ballista or 50K ballista is a sick feeling but so is logging on to a plundered city that you spent weeks building fortifacations for.
Huh? I tell you that you can send your entire army at me and lose them all doing absolutely no damage to me whatsoever, and that the supposed 'nerf' did not actually hurt me and I can still farm the 50+ million food per day that I need, but now you probably never will be able to, and you don't see the problem?

Those of us who have figured out the game mechanics by virtue of experimentation are just trying to tell you that the game has now been turned into 'strong must beat up weak, because strong cannot even scratch strong any more.'

Just listen. I AM NOT HURT BY THIS 'FIX'. I CAN STILL FARM BARBARIANS WITHOUT LOSSES. What I cannot do is fight anyone with a lvl 9 wall, and 9+ archery. So I have no choice but to send my armies to annihilate weaker opponents, or quit.

The people who are whining are doing so because they are children who can't figure out the new game play, and thus don't have any food. It was pretty simple to kill off enough of my troops to get to the 50million a day rate that I am at now, and can sustain. That is still VASTLY more than most of the rest of the server can achieve.

I am trying to explain to you exactly what is wrong now. I am not whining. I am not hurt. Hell, I posted a link in about a dozen places showing me farming a lvl 5 barb post 'fix'.

Think about this rationally. Why would I be complaining about this if I can still farm barbs, and am not personally hurt by the effects, if there weren't actually maybe something to what I am saying. Like basic math. Attacking with 90k troops that have a total build time of several weeks, losing them all, and inflicting virtually no losses = not sustainable. So we sit here, and crush noobs, with our slightly reduced but still huge armies that cannot hurt each other any more, hoping against hope that something will change to make the game playable for us again.

Really, I am trying to help you out here, so that you don't finally reach the top levels and realize 'crap, I wasted a month getting into the top 100 just to play a game that is now unplayable.'

But there are none so blind as those who will not see, none so deaf as those who will not hear.

Games like this attract a variety of people, but there's one kind that makes things unpleasant or even impossible for other players: the bullies. These are the people who play simply because they want to make other players suffer. they boast about how many people they've forced to teleport away or even stop playing.

How to set up the game so that they're thwarted yet people who want PvP are satisfied? Surely it's to make cities very, very difficult to take, but to take the combat involved in most wars out of the cities and into the valleys and flats.

That's not only sensible in gameplay terms, but also more realistic. Lots of complaints here are about how difficult it is to destroy a massive walled city with heavy defences -- well, surprise! Of course it's difficult (and very expensive and time consuming); read your history.

Somehow the game should be extended so that typical mediaeval battles could be fought between members of warring alliances. Advantage would go not only to the person with the larger and more powerful army, but also to the person who's chosen the most suitable terrain, etc. Tactics could then become an issue, rather than just general, rather crude strategy; one could choose the formation of one's army: not merely how many cavalry, pikemen, etc., but how they're organised and when they advance, stand firm, etc.

That way people could choose how they play, rather than having it forced on them.

But it would take effort, and concern for the enjoyment of the players rather than for trying to push people into paying real money for cents, so I'm not holding my breath.
DOOM(3): the local Alliance wherever you are on Server 6
Applications welcomed from players with at least 150,000 Prestige

Great, I'm happy for you. Until you realize just how boring the game is now. Work the math out for yourself with a couple test fights against low lvl barb cities. Then extrapolate it to someone having 50k archers and 10k+ towers, because obviously you haven't.

If you have a small army, and lvl 9 walls I can crush you. If you have a large army and lvl 7 walls I can crush you. If you have a large army and lvl 9 walls, there is just no point trying, because you probably also have archery 8-10 and I will sustain over 15 to 1 losses. Pointless.

LOL, you are talking about End game. End Game in a month? Yep, the game is broke. Best I ever did was end game in 3 months and that was only in terms of levels. End game in a month is suicide for an online game. Doesnt change the walls debate. It just means you shouldn't have been to end game in a month. I figure I will be much longer with that. I'm on Server 5. 50K ballista under the new refresh rates will be much further down the road.

(Assuming they don't unlock the restart because I am wiping everything if they do)

That is exactly what I am trying to tell you. There was no endgame before yesterday. It was hard to fight each other at the top, and required that we create armies that numbered in the hundreds of thousands, but it was possible. Now it is not. So yes, in one 'fix' they basically ended the game for us, because we are good gamers and figured out how to play their game.

Can you begin to understand now why we are ****ed?

Why is it to expected that you should not suffer 15:1 losses when fighting someone who is doing everything right? Why is it not expected to be a monumental task to take down a city that is properly defended?

The game has been literally indefensible against any kiddy following a guide since opening, yet in the last two days the boots on the other foot for a change and all the sudden the game is pointless?

Here, let me play that violin for ya

I think you are going to find it is still possible. As so many have pointed out, Valleys are never defended and if I take an Alpha players valleys, it does alot of damage to thier production levels. It will require you to actually manage wars in stages and fight them at a strategic level. It's becoming less of a hack and slash, more of a strategic game with each patch.

Umm. No. Hell, 4 of my cities don't even have valleys, and I haven't built any production for them other than the lvl 5 farm, lvl 3 iron mine and lvl 2 quarry necessary for the outside. I might get around to it after I have finished getting all the barracks to lvl 9, but till then it just isn't important. I just buy my resources when I run low. You just don't understand what it will be like when you reach lvl 9 walls and archery, and you have 30k plus archers. Let alone archers towers or ballista.

Really. Defense is so powerful now that at the top of the game you literally cannot harm each other.

In fact, I haven't even finished the 50k basic production quests yet for anything other than food.

LOL, read this stuff back to yourself.
So you don't have Valleys. Is there a rule that says I can't go in to "your" barbarian farms and plunder them in to the ground? Where do you get you millions of gold to buy your millions of resources then? You pull these hypotheticals out of your butt. So I can't hit your main city. You have 4 cities I can hit. You can't have 100K Ballista in them all.

This idea that you should be able to make head shots and decapitate players and anything less is a broken game? That's why the devs patched the damn game.
Grindy, grindy, grindy, Boom. I'm a PvPer and I am going to run around making lethal strikes with my I-Win army. You still haven't shown me that anyone is invincible. Just at the powerfull level they should be after months of working and not fataly poisoned by a Zerg.
