You make some good points Ocih but you need to read peoples posts.
I will simplify
1) His scenario requires no barbarians
2) You could never hit any of his 9 cities with a winnable army (check battle reports), let alone all 9 at the same time. On top of that Relief stations mean that you can shuttle forces back and forth fast enough to defend against any but simultaneous attacks.
3) He said if lumber prices remain higher than food he could replace farms with sawmills and sell lumber daily and get more food than he would from farms.
4) He agrees he's overpowered, and the defense fix made him more overpowered. And anyone can be like him.
