It is surprising how hopeless so many people are when a few means of communication go down; I find it concerning that we have all come to rely on technology we know can be unreliable so much. However things are not going to change any time soon, and the only reasonable alternative is to use multiple instant messaging programs at the same time. I am still using MSN and Yahoo Messenger successfully.
