Please don't make me drag you both all the way back to the caves, and point out the cave drawings that have lasted centuries! :P

Special Props To Don Ezio for this!

I would rather have a book, too. Especially for reference materials like an encyclopedia. It's so much easier to stick your finger in a page and flip back and forth between two sections. It's just not the same flipping between two bookmarked pages on a digital book. And there's something nice about the tangible feel of a page in your fingers, rather than a screen's glare.

I dislike all the readers I have seen. But, I'm still open to the idea if I see them grow into something that better fits my needs as a reader.

I think Fallbreez has a good point, without the invention of language, the world would be no where.

Guess we don't share the same opinion. I see it as we evolved to a certain point, naturally, and that when you look at it from another pointaview we are still evolving. Taking all we invent as an example. we invent things because our needs change, our needs change because we change, our intelligence still grows which makes us capable of inventing, and there's no nature involved there, so thats why I think we actually do "evolve" ourselfes a bit. There's the human influence, in some way.

Hmm.. i got myself lost again.

Conrad has been viewing the thread for a while now.

He is either thoroughly contemplating his choice, or writing wall of text for us.
    Probably both.

Maybe we evolved passed that point. We have taken our evolution into our own hands. Maybe you don't see a discussion in that, but I do. There are many articles about the human influence on evolution, i find them all very interesting. I'm not saying I'm right or you're wrong btw. So let's leave it to this.

The greatest achievement/activity of the human species is philosophy. It is the impetus to comprehend the origin and composition of the cosmos, the desire to create order and unity from the abyss of chaos, disorder and disunity, and the will to discover and unravel the truths or essencs of things or objects removed of their superfluities or excess layers that is uniquely human and that is fully encompassed by philosophy. The noblest human endeavor is the relentless acquisition of knowledge in which to embrace the philosophic spirit is to begin to comprehend the nature of the gods, the will of firmament, the concepts of universal truth, justice, piety and natural law.

It is the philosophic spirit which distinguishes the human individual from common creatures, savages and brutes. With philosophy, from a state of constant tension, strife, enmity, rampant chaos and base existence we can hope to achieve a fulfilling and noble existence amidst the vulgarity of the world. With philosophy, we are able to stimulate the intellect and purge the raw and vulgar passions and desires of the human body. For sybarites and brutes, existence serves merely to satiate their physical or bodily desires; however, for the sagacious or wise existence serves to satiate their desire for knowledge and Truth. Though the desire for knowledge cannot be assuaged, philosophy is the conduit through which enlightenment can be attained. Philosophy is the greatest gift of the Divine that has been bestowed to man so as to allow the human species to transcend from its putrid desires and other primitive urges.

This is a great subject and one that has 1000s of possibilities/opinions.

However, I think Fallbreeze is right.

Communication, whether it be sign, written or spoken is the basis of everything. Without it, philosophy, literature, internet etc etc would not have been achieveable.

Communication is closely followed by alchohol, with this even the ugliest of people have the chance to get ****

Side note, the worst accomplishment has got to be grammar and spelling. I fail greatly at this

There are many things I could say to fill these The book, The rifle, The car, The movie, but the best invention/discovery in my books would have to be Steel

yes thats right Steel we make just about everything out of it although in its somewhat decline we made weapons or war, houses, planes, ships, cars, buildings, computers, machines, heck some even made roads out of it its just so strong to versatile you can use it on just about everything and we just about have! so my answer would be Steel.

Plus it is just such a lovely thing to work with to make stuff from!

Maybe you haven't been using the internet for the past 1000 years but I have.

Greatest invention ever is sliced bread.
