I'm not sure which kind of arguments you are talking about, but I assure you I didn't have an argument, confrontation, debate or whatever with the poster I chose to ignore. I just don't want to read from that user, that's all. Which is the whole point of ignoring, really, at least for me. That's why I would like to have an option to hide quotes of that user too.
You may ask why I haven't proposed an additional option of ignoring/hiding every thread started by a user. There are two reasons why I didn't: first, I think it's quite possible it would affect performance (albeit not by too much, unless my ignore list was huge), and second, other posters might contribute posts which are useful, sensible and/or fun in their own right.
And don't get me started on search results... heh.
More power to you, then! Really.
I propose stuff when a) I can't implement it via other means, and/or b) I think it could be useful to other users too. In this case, it's the latter.
As for me, I can always write and/or use a Greasemonkey script to filter out anything in a webpage that I don't want there. Why train my eyes to ignore something when I can make it disappear altogether?
Regardless, I (and, I'm sure, others too) reserve the choice to ignore anyone and anything, as I see fit, and deal with any consequences that follow.
Peace out.
Just a FWIW from a mostly technical standpoint:
A "Really, truly, ignore" option is doable. I'm not sure whose responsibility it would be for undertaking it, but it would most likely be the vBulletin developers / community modification developers.
What it would add is additional parsing, so it could slow the server down. Could... By how much is hard to say...
At any rate, I very, very, very rarely use ignore, but when I have decided to use it, I'd rather it really ignore, not just block text and leave a little "so-and-so posted but is on your ignore list" as bait that you have to have willpower to skip over... So, I can understand the reasoning behind the request, but it's likely not something this company can do on their own...
Besides, the trend is the Shiny New Toy anyway (feedback site)...so any kind of new development effort would likely be put in there long before any changes would be made here...because identical feedback that gets posted here is many times better made there...dontcha know?![]()
Rota for Evony Ombudsman, 2011.
But anyway, this would have to be something proposed to vBulletin developers.
It's all Rodri's fault.
I agree with the OP, to some extent. What's the use of putting someone on your ignore list if not all of his/her posts are blocked afterwards? Kinda defeats the purpose imo.
Also, the ignore feature is a personal preference; whether or not people want to use it is their prerogative and we shouldn't impose our own preferences on them if we disagree. It's a given that using it may cause you to miss some valid points raised by the person you ignored, but that's a consequence you have to live with ... your loss.
As for this being implemented ... like what's already been stated, I believe this will have to be something made by the dev team of vBulletin. Try checking out their site if they have tweaks like these available. However, if it's too much of a bother to go through with installing it, I don't think it will be implemented.
A decent idea though. And props for staying cool under the barrage of negative feedback.![]()
i need this because of japanpimp
That awkward moment when you get in to a van and theres no candy
Couldn't you scroll down? But, if Bole supports the idea, it is a winner.... dundun dunnn
But, yea I always tend to forget that vBulletin is a program. It is limited by what the vBulletin devs have come up with. Evony can only activate/deactivate/modify features.
Yup. Agreed.
