Could I get a rephrase of the question?

That is, are we answering who we think most likely to have ushered in the modern age of philosophy. Or, to whom we most credit the modern age of philosophy to? Or something else entirely?

While I disagree with Niccolo Machiavelli's denouncement of Plato's "The Republic" amongst other fameous philosophers and their ideal, or utopian states, I would credit him with the modern philosopher status.
