I'll kick this off by saying that you're better off simply farming the living daylights out of those things than capping them. You'll produce a lot less food if they are in your hands instead of being used as a farm. I and others have done the math--it simply isn't worth it.

However, if you want one that bad, here's an effective method:

First, you're going to need heroes that you want to build. Second, you need lots and lots of warriors, because you're going to suffer quite a few losses overall. Third, if you're able to have the ballista to hit it, then all you need is the warriors.

As soon as you have all of this, do the following:

Step one: Send a wave of 500 ballista, and 500 transporters to get the resources out of the barb. After all, it costs food to send troops, and a few transports never hurt either.

Step two: Right after you send your ballista, time your first wave of warriors to hit right after the ballista hit. The closer the better--Loyalty regenerates every 6 minutes along with defenses. Send only enough to win; it's the only reason for sending them. If you have enough, send a lot to make loyalty go down faster.

Step three: Heal as soon as the last hit of the wave lands. As soon as they return, send a bigger wave followed by a bunch of smaller ones. 10% of the defenses will have come back by the time you hit it, so you need more to break through.

Step four: Repeat Step 3 over and over again until you cap the town. It's going to take a whole lot of hits and as much as an hour to get it, so make sure that you keep troops healed, and make sure that you are leveling up your heroes to cut losses for more attacks.

Step five: Enjoy your city, and take very good care of it.
