Bitter experience has taught me to distrust the police and I am a law abiding citizen! The thing is, I am not wealthy, so the police are not there to protect me. They are there to protect the rich from me and so in every interaction I have with police I know that I am a potential suspect, even if I am reporting a crime commited against me. I have heard police officers lie under oath to secure a conviction and I have heard police officers exagerate the facts of a case while giving evidence, to secure a harsher sentence because they think they have a right to do so.

The USA is a dangerous place because everyone is considered armed and dangerous by the police and that makes the police very dangerous if you run afoul of them. (this is not a gun control rant, it's just the facts) So people get shot by police and sometimes for no good reason. They even shoot people here sometimes. We used to joke about how the Victorian police would go Bang Bang - "Stop or I'll shoot!"
It never was a very funny joke.

We need some sort of law enforcement but I don't think we need a bunch of steroid pumped bully-boys running around with guns and a sense of impunity because they wear a badge.
