"So do I." Smith's eyes were flared up with anger. However, as angry as he was, he wouldn't do something stupid and draw his sword on the inn's patrons, much less the guard captain.
"Is she not at my forge? I told her that I was going to let her stay there...She seemed to have left before I woke up. I also was concerned about the reports, so I figured that a guy with a sword would be able to scare them away...Apparently not."
His eyes flashed with a fierce glint. "I'll help you find the girl, but I assure you that you'll have to bring me to jail for a few hours if someone starts telling lies like that innkeeper. It doesn't take a scientist to figure out that girl's disappearance wasn't my doing. If I wished to kidnap that girl, wouldn't I be long gone?"
He made a titanic effort to prevent himself from grabbing a blunt object and thrashing the innkeeper for his dishonesty...
And if he was indeed brought to jail on false charges, he would indeed resist at the right moment.
