Oh wait, you know what would be awesome? Screw red rep. Give me the power to take away post count. Not actually delete posts they made, but just let me make it look like they only had made 2k posts instead of the 10k they actually have. It would take away their ability to give high amounts of rep without taking away rep itself.
Okay so this whole thread seems like it has been about derailing but anyway as far as the power thing goes as the mods on here have said - if people are abusing there privileges they will likely be taken away if noticed enough.
I have a vbulletin forum myself and if the usergroups here are set up like they are there (unlikely) but they should be close.
-----------
Then Senior Moderators (Super Moderators originally) have the ability to go into the mod control panel and search a users name and manually change there rep if necessary. As in for each rep point they have (positive or negative- if abuse was there they can edit it).
Likewise they can also go to a members profile page, hit the "edit profile" button and go in and manually change the number. By default it starts out at 10, on here i think it starts out at 0. Anyway if a senior moderator wanted to they could manually change it to 50 or -50. I'm sure they would do this only to correct the system if someone had been abusing privileges.
------------
Obviously i didn't make the Evony Representatives usergroup on here, but from what I've seen around the forums they like have Senior Moderators privileges, as in there usergroup was likely set up to be like a Senior Moderators. (possibly admin...)
-------------
normal Forum Moderators don't have access to the "Mod" control panel. They can do with the forums they moderate, but as far as rep goes they have nothing to do with that - at least not with vbulletin default. Also they can not "edit" a persons profile, so they also can't edit reputation that way. Essentially it would just be a good idea to mail them if you are continually being red repped by someone and are disputing why you are being red repped...
--------------
Administrators (by vbulletin default at least)
A) they can do everything that a senior (super) moderator can do, as they can easily edit profiles and have access to the "mod" control panel.
B) they have access to the "admin" control panel as well.
--- allows them to have different usergroups (examples: registered users, moderators, admins, evony representatives, historic posters, banned users etc.)
---- within these different usergroups they can set what each person starts there reputation with (0, 10 etc)
----they can also chose how much each usergroup can give for reputation starting out - usually 1 point --- then with X amount of days, posts, reputation they get more points of reputation that they can give out.
---the admin has the option to enable or disable red rep - right now i have it on my vbulletin that only admins and mods can give negative rep as it's too likely that people will abuse the power and I don't really feel like dealing with the hassle. But on here they make it so that a person has to be a Duke or higher (or a special usergroup such as a mod), by being on the forums that long and accumulating the amount of reputation that Dukes have, usually ensures that for the most part the negative rep won't be misused.
----Admin have the ability to search by "beginning date - end date" and under the "User Reputations" section in the admin control panel "view reputation comments" ---- which could help with figuring out if someone is abusing there privileges as well (if there is a mean comment in the case of red rep).
--------------
There are more options that admins have for reputation but it would make this post ALOT longer, and it wouldn't really have more to do with negative reputation. I'm just trying to say that between the admin and senior moderators that the positive/negative rep system is probably pretty control and no major abuse is going on. Reiterating what the mods said earlier, some users have lost there titles/powers for abuse.
-------------
I wouldn't worry about reputation too much on here, it's your posts that matter, make them worth your while and not how others receive them. If you get positive rep great, if you get negative rep it's not the end of the world. It's a forum just have fun with it. Hopefully what i said earlier made sense, if not at least i wasn't just putting troll pictures lmao (not that they weren't cute). I'm stepping off mynow
It's time for me to shut it :P

You forgot a tl;dr
Server139 Player obviously made that post trying to get people to rep him.
You guys made a thread that was 11 pages of derailing - a made a post that I tried to have do with the original topic - I read every single post in this thread before I made my own post. If people don't like it they can red rep me if they are duke or higher, it's how the system works and at this point I won't even be angry about it because like i said in my original post it's a forum, not the end of the world if i get red rep. The whole reason why I made a post that long was it was around 3am my time - my server was having it's down time and i was waiting for word on my thread in the help section, when i was done with the post i logged off here and went back to evony. Oh and logging in now I got word on my post in the help section by Thalin Athasin so right now i'm so dang happy lol.![]()
