Thread: Coalitions.. why? or why not?

Eight tiers is just too damn many.

To me its just another game exploit, since alliances are limited to 100 members. I can get a sister or two, but 800 members is just winning by sheer numbers cooperating.

Anyone that wants to see how a coalition can kill a server can just go visit 131.
All they do is sit around, farm, and talk about the upcoming merger that never happens. 1 guy pretty much calls all the shots and while I give him credit for his diplo skills, he's killed the server.

i think coalitions r only good if u know the ppl in the group and one group won't drop another simply because of rank or members getting quantity is easy getting quality is another thing entirely

Coalitions would fall if they had poor diplomacy, poor communication, poor attitudes, poor negotiating skills or poor leaders. The larger the alliance, the better the leaders, and the more managers are needed to keep the team at large loyal and strong.

A large coalition is something to awe at, and as voiced in this forum, also something to hate if you are on the wrong side.

Some coalitions work. I mean, at the beginning of our first server merge, I formed a coalition with two other alliances to survive because everyone seemed to be in a coalition of some sort. We were not sister alliances, just alliances with common enemies and common goals. We always remained blue with each other because we had good communication and a respect between the hosts. I had a small group of fighters in my alliance (after being up there hosting a number one alliance and all the bs crap that went on, I preferred my small loyal group). I eventually merged with the larger alliance in that coalition cuz I had enough of being host after 1 year and I am still in that alliance.

I think if you are the sort that forces people to join rather than allowing them to join willingly, then coalitions will not work out because you have unhappy players both in your main alliance and in the "sisters."

I have also come to believe that same name sister alliances are a bad idea. Especially those that are created to house the noobs of merged alliances. Big war comes along, they don't bother building troops because most are farmers who play farmville inside a war game and they get bitter because Mommy couldn't protect them, because Mommy was too busy fighting for it's own survival. LOL. I have seen this situation too many times now.

I agree with you, except this doesn't always hold true.

This plan doesn't work because it has implied weakness and strength:
    Vengence 1
    Vengence 2
    Vengence 3
    etc

However, naming an alliance for it's state, or it's combined forces DOES work.

    PheonixHero
    HeroChip
    SourApple

    etc

    or in na2's case

    Elite
    EliteWr
    EliteXOD

    etc.

It DOES work, but your right, it is a sensitive subject and has to be approached carefully.

Its not a matter of if it works or not, its a matter of, well, killing the server as stated above.

I remember on S62 we had one guy calling the shots with killer diplo skill, but it came to be what alliance was going to be declared on by the world that month. Was like playing in Mongo and seeing what kingdom Ming wanted blasted next.

And let me tell you, even Flash if he was real woulda had a hard time putting something together to break it.

Yes it was effective inside the coalition but, honestly, I think it outside the bounds of fairplay, UNLESS Evony someday actually kills servers rather than ineffectually merges them into unplayability.

And incidentally, I was a member of an alliance in the coalition. And it sickened me.
