    Default WHo the king represents...

During a episode of Naruto; Asuma and Shikamaru were playing a game of shogi (essentially Japanese chess) and Asuma asked:

Asuma: Do you know who would be the king?

    Shikamaru: Hokage?

Asuma: I used to think so, too, but then I found out I was wrong.

Then later when asuma is about to die Asuma tells shikamaru who the king represents

Asuma: The king are your future sons ... and my son to be born ...whom I am willing to die for.

Do you agree with asuma in the symbolism of the king piece?

(Note: The king is also known as the golden general in shogi)

the King in Chess? i never much thought about it. i suppose any idea you would be willing to make personal sacrifices for could be the King, but i dont know what it was originally.

or any of the symbolization in that game actually.

If you're talking about just chess, then....

If you're talking about anything, then....I have no idea.

The King is simply this: that which must not be lost.

In life (and anime, insofar as it imperfectly mirrors life) there are several goals that can be ranked in increasing importance. Some give personal education and growth the highest priority; others rate their own pleasure - or worse, convenience - even higher. Serving others or society, various causes -- there are many things that are often seen as more valuable even than life itself.

To those focused on their own immortality, it is often seen that such a goal is worthy yet impracticable; following an acceptance of this is a subsequent refocusing either on religion or on one's progeny. To such a self-focused individual, these goals - potentially quite worthy in themselves - take on supreme or even absolute importance.

There are those that focus unwisely; these people are said to have personality disorders. An example is the focus on certain trivial and ritualistic details to the exclusion of sleep, job security, proper nutrition et cetera in order to play an internet game or post regularly on an internet forum. Having said that, I'm off to update my archived Hero Guide; there's been exciting developments in Age I Inns.
