Yes, there was a super-continent called Pangea that divided into the continental plates we know today. It's not just a theory, there is evidence. Rocks on the West coasts of Europe and Africa have been matched to rocks on the east coast of North and South America. They were connected at one time, and there is plenty of other evidence too.
