If horrific means to make horrible, does terrific mean to make
    terrible?

Why do overlook and oversee mean opposite things?

Ever wonder what the speed of lightning would be if it didn't zigzag?

You keep trying to find mind blowing contradictions, yet each has reasonable explanations. I'm tired of throwing logic on your attempts. Maybe I'll come back to this thread another day. It's someone else's turn to answer.

    1. No. (I think it would be better to say that horrific causes horror, rather than "make horrible". The same applies for terrific + terror.) Terrific did mean that, up until 1888, when a colloquial meaning was adapted, which is the modern-day interpretation of the word.

    2. Overlook's meaning is taken from the literal meaning of the 2 words it is composed of: over and look. To look over or beyond and thus not see, to choose to not notice. (This was first recorded in the 1520's/1530's.)

Oversee has meant "to supervise" since the middle of the 15th century. It lacks the literal meaning of overlook, therefore it is what it is.

    3. No I never have wondered that because electricity (and therefore, lightning) takes the path of least resistance, not the shortest distance. Particles in the air, or even water droplets, can affect the path. This is what causes zig-zags instead of a straight line.

If man evolved from apes why do we still have apes?

Why are apartments so close together?

Why are a wise man and a wise guy opposites?

What happens if you get scared half to death twice?

    Default i got answers

If man evolved from apes why do we still have apes?
    • because man didn't evolve from apes or lemurs or possums... man barely evolved at all and it looks like we never will

Why are apartments so close together?
    • they have a penchant for cuddles

Why are a wise man and a wise guy opposites?
    • only a wise a** and a wise man are truly opposite... a wise man is just as often a wise guy as a wise woman is a wise gal

What happens if you get scared half to death twice?
    • you die

    1) Man didn't evolve from modern apes. Man and modern apes are different evolutionary paths from the same ancient, prehistoric primates.

    2) Apartments are separate dwellings within the same structure. There are walls and dividers that keep them completely "apart" from each other, despite the fact that they are in the same building. That way, neighbors cannot freely walk from one apartment into another, and invade another's privacy.

    3) They aren't, there can be a wise guy who is also a wise man.

    4) You get scared 75% to death. The first scare puts you at 50% near death. Since you are at 50%, the next "half" scare takes you 25% closer to death.

    1. If a man is standing in the middle of the forest speaking and there is no woman around to hear him - is he still wrong?

    2. If a deaf person swears, does his mother wash his hands with soap?

    3. If someone with multiple personalities threatens to kill himself, is it considered a hostage situation?

    4. Is there another word for synonym?

    5. Isn't it a bit unnerving that doctors call what they do "practice?"

    6. When you open a bag of cotton balls, is the top one meant to be removed?

    7. Where do forest rangers go to "get away from it all?"

    8. If the police arrest a mime, do they tell him he has the right to remain silent?

    9. If a parsley farmer is sued, can they garnish his wages?

    10. Would a fly without wings be called a walk?

    Lol....have fun!!!!

    :-)

If a thread is spam, should it be canned?
