You're looking for any places where it says it was timed out, got no response, or has huge numbers of miliseconds between "hops" (each line).
how do u do that with a mac?

Applications -> Utilities -> double click Terminal
Type in 'tracert 147.evony.com' or whatever the server is.

I don't have a mac, so if this is inaccurate, blame the folks at support.verio.com/documents/view_article.cfm?doc_id=3693

Yeah, can you say frustration? I have been dealing with this for almost a month now and all i get are replies or none, that say it is first my cache, flash, my isp and now i read they recommend a proxy server. Sorry don't have one and have tried a few free ones and they seem to be unable to connect to evony.

Dave I tried the tracert and saw no problems yet i cannot connect to s145 yet from the same computer and same isp i can connect to 150? Yet the problem is at my end or my isp?

I have updated and updated the ticket number. Sent a pm to dawnseeker yesterday. Up until this i have been pleased with Evony and their service but am more than a little frustrated with this matter. So Dave it is a curious sitution that you referred to in your post. But what is frustrating me is that it appears to be my problem.

I hope someone some day can do something about this. Have been playing on 145 for months without problem until this hit. If i use another isp it works fine. As i use a laptop it is mobile. Seems odd to me that i can connect to one server and not another on this isp yet can connect to both on another isp.

So far have burned through about 3.5 bill food because i am unable to farm adequately.

Dave, hope you can check it out for those of us that this is happening to.

    Take care.

Could you copy the tracert results and paste them here? Could you also post the tracerts from the ISP that you can access both servers from?

This seams like a good thread to put my problem in. Though I'm not claiming it's a problem with the servers, it is very similar to the discussion already here.

When I'm at my university, I can't play Evony. The "I should be doing schoolwork at school" argument aside, the proxy server we have in place does not appear to block Evony. I can access the main site with no problems. I can login and select my server.

At the last second (before I think my cities are going to show up), I get a "Network connection error. Please refresh your page and try again." error message. Doing a trace to na1.evony.com, I stop at m00002-sd.evony.com (64.156.194.8).

I've looked at a few other replies and the first step is always to clear out everything. I followed Dawn's guide to clearing my computer of old files to the letter, but the problem persists. I still stop at the same place in my trace.

I hope this helps. I'd love to be able to check my cities throughout the day.

This is where people, including Evony, have not understood what I'm meaning.

Even when people have this problem, they are still able to get responses from tracert / traceroute. It's not an end-to-end connectivity issue.

What I have noticed to this point is most people, and possibly all people, that report having a problem like this end up passing through some network OTHER THAN Cogent.

So, my question to you is does your trace look similar to this (note what is BOLDED):

    tracert na1.evony.com

    Tracing route to na1.evony.com [64.156.194.8]
over a maximum of 30 hops:

    1 1 ms <1 ms <1 ms x.x.x.x
    2 18 ms 7 ms 7 ms x.x.x.x
    3 11 ms 9 ms 9 ms x.x.x.x
    4 8 ms 9 ms 11 ms x.x.x.x
    5 19 ms 18 ms 15 ms x.x.x.x
    6 27 ms 23 ms 23 ms te0-2-0-4.ccr22.dca01.atlas.cogentco.com [154.54.7.157]
    7 53 ms 53 ms 52 ms te0-3-0-2.ccr22.atl01.atlas.cogentco.com [154.54.42.198]
    8 53 ms 50 ms 51 ms te0-2-0-1.ccr22.iah01.atlas.cogentco.com [154.54.7.238]
    9 64 ms 57 ms 59 ms te3-1.ccr01.sat01.atlas.cogentco.com [154.54.27.114]
    10 94 ms 97 ms 98 ms te3-1.ccr01.phx02.atlas.cogentco.com [154.54.27.117]
    11 89 ms 91 ms 92 ms te4-1.ccr01.san01.atlas.cogentco.com [154.54.7.86]
    12 91 ms 83 ms 86 ms vl3506.na21.b006590-1.san01.atlas.cogentco.com [66.28.67.70]
    13 88 ms 102 ms 88 ms 38.96.10.250
    14 91 ms 83 ms 82 ms m00002-sd.evony.com [64.156.194.8]

    Trace complete.

Hop 12 (for this trace) is the last part of the path within Cogent Communication's network. So, what I'm getting at is do your traces have "cogentco.com" within them for most of the hops, or do you have something else?

Edit: Hop 13 seems to belong to M5 Hosting out of San Diego. This makes sense, as the Cogent hops are using the IATA Airport codes for the cities where the routers are located (DCA for Reagan National, ATL for Hartsfield International, IAH for Houston George Bush Intercontinental, SAT for San Antonio International, PHX for Phoenix Sky Harbor International, and SAN for San Diego International). I'd also be curious if this hop for you is the exact same IP address or not.

Yes, a bit slower, I know, but has always worked and you will not get better from where I am.

No, this is not a caching issue, cache has been cleared. I have switched accounts between ISPs.

Interestingly the last thing Firefox shows at the bottom is:
    upay-cdn2.playspan.com
    ...

I quit for a while once in disgust with all the Evony issues. Right now I have hungry troops Evony staff!

    Please resolve this!

OK. You're a totally different person from who I've been trying to talk to, and you have an unspecified issue that may or may not be the same as the issue being reported by the OP.

What specifically is your issue? Are you too getting a network connection error, or are you having difficulty downloading the game client? Are you on dialup, or satellite / cellular?

I'm not sure what the whole playspan thing is about. Are you attempting to go to the Evony home page and log in that way? If so, then yeah, there's a lot of advertising and/or Facebook and/or who-knows-what traffic that gets spawned connecting that way. Since you mention Firefox, download the add-on Adblock Plus and also NoScript and see if it helps...

I will have to check when I get back to school tomorrow, but I checked here at my home (where I have no problems) and I DO go through multiple cogentco.com jumps. It doesn't seam to affect me though as I have no problems accessing my cities.

I don't think this post helps much for my problem, but it lets you know that I too am going through those places but I don't have any problems.

These problems are almost always caused by a cache or temp file issue. Clearing your flash temp files, cache and cookies will resolve this in almost all cases. Instructions here. The servers are online and the normal number of players have been playing, so its most likely not a problem with the server.
