Okay so just for other mac users out there - you have to actually type in traceroute --- not tracert for it to work --- this is what I got when I did it...
The only way i knew it ended was A) it stopped for a while and B) it said the name of my computer with my name...

    see anything weird in there?

edit: from looking at the other ones, the macs traceroutes must be different or something because yea - the numbers before the ms are alot longer But I do always get in, just it always loads like it is the "first time" - it has to go through that 100% thing even when i don't clear my cache. The only times I've had network problems is when everyone else is having network problems... Was just curious how the traceroute worked and now i'm curious as to why the #'s are so long..

As for the "numbers being a lot longer", if you're talking about the actual value of the numbers, they're not bad. What I don't understand is that it seems like you've copied some lines in a funky, split-screen kind of way. There are clearly more than 15 different IP addresses / hostnames listed. Make sure you didn't do some auto-wrap thing or copy multiple things to whatever the Mac OS calls a "clipboard"...

As for it having to load every time, you might check to make sure that your browser is not set to automatically delete temp files / cache when you close your browser. The only other way I've ever been able to cause the game client to load every time is when I had my browser set as a "Trusted Application" in Comodo Firewall. Apparently something in that configuration does not work properly. The problem went away when I changed the browser from "Trusted Application" to "Web Browser".

This is how it looked to me, I even did a screenshot to show I didn't copy it weird.. I didn't go through a clipboard thing at all. As for my browser I've never had a trusted application type thing before, I use safari...

Used a white out thing to get rid of most of my last name on there..

Other then it looking weird, the numbers themselves are alright right?

What specifically is your issue? Are you too getting a network connection error, or are you having difficulty downloading the game client? Are you on dialup, or satellite / cellular?

I'm not sure what the whole playspan thing is about. Are you attempting to go to the Evony home page and log in that way? If so, then yeah, there's a lot of advertising and/or Facebook and/or who-knows-what traffic that gets spawned connecting that way. Since you mention Firefox, download the add-on Adblock Plus and also NoScript and see if it helps...
No, not an unspecified issue, exactly the same issue as mentioned by the OP.
havent been able to login for an hour, get the classic "network error" dialog box blah blah
I use a standard ADSL2+ modem with copper/fibre connect to the ISP, from there on fibre. (Also tried two totally different ISPs)

I go to http://www.evony.com, log in, select my server then wait. After a while I get a network error.

@ neko_lord: Ever tried logging into Evony with js disabled? Give it a bash .... as for popups, they are disabled.

@Dawnseeker: It is not what you are suggesting, there is something more to the issue. If it happens on Opera and Firefox with clean caches and temp directories? The first time you try it with a clean cache, it also downloads the client. I also have the newest flash client etc. Interestingly, if I just keep on refreshing and refreshing eventually it will go in, but you have to have a lot (and and lot and lot ... ) of patience. I had a heck of a weekend.

Evony, where may I claim for finger wear and tear, a new left mouse button and a fresh browser reload button!

Now for the good news. This issue has suddenly disappeared and things are working like a charm today (touch wood). tcptraceroutes shows more or less the same times:
    20 * * *
    21 vl3806.na21.b006590-1.san01.atlas.cogentco.com (66.28.67.74) 354.781 ms 358.835 ms 356.500 ms
    22 38.96.10.250 357.978 ms 357.618 ms 358.231 ms
    23 m00002-sd.evony.com (64.156.194.8) [open] 355.276 ms 356.209 ms 356.476 ms
For the record, traceroute in itself does not prove anything as it does not address port shaping/filtering at ISPs etc. tcptraceroute is much more accurate in diagnosing these types of issues.

It may be my unfamiliarity with Unix-based OSes, like Mac OS X, but I don't know why it is doing that. Maybe those are other routers that it went through? I'd have to do some research. Like I said, I'm not a *ix user.

Other then it looking weird, the numbers themselves are alright right?
Yes... They're within the typical range of where you'd want them to be for online games. They'd need to be a bit lower for First Person Shooter games, but this game isn't one of those...

I just did log into server 149 with Javascript disabled. It seems to take a little longer, but it does work. The game client also does not resize to fit the screen, but again, it does work.

NoScript does not completely shut off Javascript though, which you appear to have assumed that it did. NoScript blocks whatever you tell it to block, which is typically 3rd party scripts.

Also, Adblock Plus is much more than a popup blocker. For example, ABP blocked an advertising script, index_remarketing.js, from loading when I went to the Evony home page. It also blocked a google ad services script when I went to 149.evony.com.

Further, NoScript blocked pbc.com and paybycash.com, which are awful similar to your Playspan.com issue. In fact, paybycash.com has a playspan logo on the upper-right side of the page...

In essence, I'm non-paid and attempting to help. If you want to be snarky in response, then I'll stop trying to help and leave you to the company, which, as you've noticed, will only tell you to delete your cache and cookies despite you telling them that it doesn't make any difference.

    You missed the period separator...

It should be 150.evony.com or 145.evony.com, not 150evony.com or 145evony.com.

Well now i get a complete trace on 145 as well but am still getting constant network connection errors for 145 but not 150. Tried for more than 2 hours on 145 and just network connection error. Am connected to 150 now and always get on with no problems. So as Dave said would like to see the tracert for this situation.

    Thanks again!

Well, is there anyone on server 145 that can verify that your Last Online time shows as the same time as you got a network connection error? I had not yet seen a Cogent network route be affected by this, but there's no reason why it couldn't.

You'll note that the traces both end up at the same IP address. What Evony does is then route you internally to the correct server based on the name of the server - "145", "150", etc... That gets embedded in the request that your web browser sends. The name-based routing is where I think things are breaking down.
