    I am just not convinced that their is a problem with the star system a 12 or 13 set can compete with a 15 set and a 12 or 13 is totally doable from farming or light spending.

    but I would ask a larger question why do servers die in 3-6 months. after a period of time the beginners protection needs to be beefed up for really like a month. on a colonize server 1 month protection will let you get to a point where a big player cannot simply walk all over you thus making it so new people can come in to replace those who leave so yea you get a 15 set in 1 year ok fine the server is still active after 1 year the complaint is that by the time a non spender can farm a 15 set the server is dead dead. a 15 star is very over powered and should be rare the current system allows that it is the equlivant of a level 700 heros in age 1

    Somewhat off-topic, but personally I would like to see players have the option of 'opting in' to an conquest system over the existing colonize option on the older servers. Conquest players can attack one another and capture cities, while those who leave themselves in colonize mode can only attack to colonize, and be colonized.

    On my Age 1 account, I was able to obtain an instant-scout hero in eight months, by strategically porting a city to an area where there were 8 open flats around it, and then surrounded myself with level 10 NPCS, which I could attack on a rotational basis for hero leveling. Of course, you can't do this now on Age 1 servers, as flat-filler bots make it almost impossible to even port a city around unless you get on right after maintenance, before they fill in the gaps from the maintenance NPC-clearing activity.

    I disagree, however, that a lvl 15 gearset is the equivalent to a level 700 hero. My HH (96 base atk if I'm not mistaken -- I started too late on the server to get a 99 base atk HH) has an atk value of 1019, which on age 1 servers would yield several levels of instant troops... while he can only build 30-second archers... heck, even my paultry 738 atk hero on Age 1 can do 3-second archers.

    lvl 9 star set yields a 2.0 life bonus
    lvl 12 star set yields a 2.5 life bonus
    lvl 14 star set yields a 3.0 life bonus
    lvl 15 star set yields a 3.5 life bonus

    Drop rate on average on na1 seems to be 3.5:1.

    Here's my take on star leveling strategy:

    While I agree that one may have greater chances of success going straight to 15 on a single piece, in terms of overall game play it can be debilitating. Consider that you will be playing for a long time with massively unbalanced or low stars with no life bonus. This means that a player will always be weak and take big losses on lvl 8-10 farms and make HC caps really expensive or impossible.

    If one completes a lvl 11 set to start with, they can benefit from balanced stars and have decent offence and defence. They can then push to raise individual stars to 13. They still maintain balance. Should they fail, they can easily recover to 9 and enjoy the benefits of life and balance. In terms of daily play, I feel it'd be better to have all pieces at 11 with one at 9, than to have 3 at 15 and the rest at 0.

    Stars are a horrible thing unless you reach a 15 set. You only need 4 if you succeed, but need thousands if you fail.

    The problem with the star system is there is no tangible, consistent return on investment (whether it be time spent farming or money spent).

    One person can get a piece to 12 by spending 48 flawless gems. His alliance mate can spend 1000 and end up at level 2. I don't think the overall cost of a 15 set is absurd, because evony didn't mean for every player to have a 15 set. That's reserved for the big spenders and the people who farm their tail off for 2 years. The problem is in the process.

    Instead of it being a 'gambling' system, evony should have had a set cost to upgrade. aka 4 flawless from 1 to 2, 8 flawless from 2 to 3, 16 flawless from 3 to 4...ect. Improvements in gear should be permanent instead of fleeting. The current system is very very unfair to people who don't drop large amounts of money at once.

    Just my opinion.

    You raise some really good points. Perhaps a better approach is somewhere in the middle, such as you suggest.

    i just went from 9 to 10 on a gear using 1 delicate gem, then failed going from 3 to 4 on another gear with 4 delicate gems......*scratches head*
