Were there zombies in I Am Legend? I thought they were just mutant humans that were incapable of some of the highers functions of normal humans.

There is no cure for AIDS (as it really isn't a disease and more of a lack of a good immune system) so I believe this only applies to HIV. Now we must wait on a cure for cancer.

I know what aids is. You're considered to have aids when your immune system gets down to a certain point. Get rid of HIV, you stop the progression.

That was just the post production studio BS changes.

In the original, the vampires (yes VAMPIRES) were revealed to be thinking, benevolent creatures who were merely attempting to rescue a vampire that Neville had captured earlier.

The title "I Am Legend" comes from Neville's realization at the end that the vampires were the good guys and that he was the monster of their legends, since he had been mindlessly driving stakes through their heart at every opportunity.
