Well i think it depends on the area you are from

For instance i live right outside a city, if someone comes up and asks me about the weather first thought is they are trying to steal my purse or drag me into a dark alley.

Soo it's awkward when i experience some "southern" hospitality or go visit family i have in Rhode Island, people are a lot friendlier then my area so i look like an ass when i'm suspicious of what constitutes as nice behavior.

But it is an awkwardness face to face i'm really shy unless i know the person i'm talking to extremely well.
