It's a pity that at a certain stage that all the very active players and servers over a certain age cannot simply press a button to port their account to a new fresh server leaving the dead accounts behind. It seems that the current system of merges creates more issues than it is actually solving so it would be in everyone's interest to leave the servers as they were and create a new server where only active players could answer the call. Ofcourse abuse would happen with all their alts following but even then ... Atleast there would be life

@Ailuros and the rest of the gang askig for mergers to be scheduled... It wont work. You should follow the threads on feedback.evony.com because the evony service reps give more attention to game suggestions over there.

Here is a cut and paste from there:

what would be so wrong or bad about having a set schedule for merges?

    japanpimp 13 days ago
    Because every server is different.
Different number of active players, different revenue stream, different everything... So if you set a schedule to accomodate something then consistency is needed, right?
Say there are 6 servers about 8 months old each.
4 of the 6 servers are very active, 80% filled with active players.
And 2 of the 6 servers have very few active players.
So, what servers do you merge? Should you merge the two low activity servers? Or merge a low activity server with a high activity server?
Well, if you set a schedule then you will end up merging ALL 6 servers and this is what will happen....
The two low activity servers will be merged. Then the remaining 4 high activity servers will be merged. And after the merge they will be WAY too crowded because they were all high activity servers that were merged. Why? Because it was time to merge them, the schedule was followed.
So, you can see how following a merge schedule will cause a problem for many servers.

Could not agree more. When a server has matured and been live for more than say, 3 months, then no reason players from any other server cant move their account to it. I understand that moving between Age 1 and Age 2 would be tough because they are so different. But moving between servers of a similar gaming environment should be supported. In order to prevent abuse and wars that span multiple servers, Evony can simply make a rule that players cannot move accounts to another server of similar environment more than twice a year.

    JapanPimp,

I really don't see how what you posted shows why it's a bad idea. You posted it as the only possibility would be for the 2 low activity servers to be merged and then the 4 high activity servers would be merged. All the previous merges have not been in order, some of them were merged with servers a few older or a few younger. Low activity can be merged with high activity. Once a server becomes 6 months old (or however old they decide) it can be held open as a candidate for the next available "fair" pairup for a merge. It won't necessarily be merged on the exact date of it's x month anniversary, but it can QUALIFY for a merge at that time.

Some excellent points being raised here.

That said to reply to your earlier posting JP merges are needed. Players moving to servers of their choice will result in newer servers being overrun by larger accounts. Newer players will just quit simply because they have way of competing.

The points that seems to be coming up again and again is that merges should happen more frequently, the amount of multi accounts & those accounts spending money to go into holiday out of sheer boredom.

    Really interesting discussion here guys.

Thanks to Infinitus for the epic B'day pressie!

I think the majority of players want this merger. I have an idea but cant open a thread to post it since I am not much of a poster on here. I do agree though, this is a very interesting thread to read.

I am Mira on server 144. Yesterday there was a discussion in World Chat about how much everyone would like to have a merge for our server. I personally could go either way, but the majority of players here have been wanting one for at least 3-6 months now (depending on who you talk to).

On our server, the top two alliances (one of which I am a member of) are allied and have been for the majority of the server. A lot of people suggest that in order to make the server more interesting we should declare on each other and leave everyone else alone. However, I am of the opinion that on a good and active server two alliances should be able to join together without dominating the entirety of the server. The way I see it, there is a solution to this problem other than the two already mentioned (those being either a merge or war between the two dominating friendlies), being a coalition between the other strong alliances on our server. It is beyond me why they haven't thought of this before or made overtures toward each other to take us out. I am familiar with the hosts of multiple of these alliances and know the majority of them to be solid players capable of courteous and rational discourse and, in some instances, the masterminds of well-planned and instituted attacks that devastated their enemies. If they were to join together the way that my alliance and friendly have, they would be more than capable of making our server extremely competitive once again.

It is not for lack of troops or resources or even heroes that they provide little challenge. I can only surmise that it is either paralyzing fear or an inability to cooperate with each other under the common idea that my enemies' enemy is my friend.

So...could a merge revitalize 144 and decrease player attrition? Most definitely, but that doesn't mean it's the only solution. At least, not for our server at any rate.

well games is getting boring already

Edit: and yes please dont merge servers again till the other servers with huge issues are fixed! when i read here what they have to deal with i am glad we are just bored! cause that takes out the fun of game even more.

and just making new servers with same problems will also cause evony more stress and then nothing ever get solved
From 84 also and pretty much completely agree. We have been past end game since probably January or February and the drop off in play has been precipitous. There are few state wars, maybe a couple going on. The only way to attack people is to port. Tons of people in Holiday. The constant Noobing of the states has caused a constant opening of flats. To the point that Evony is now opening up NPC's as flats. Some around me that I've npc'd one week have opened again in less than a week. Wow this is fun and is very difficult motivating people to want to do anything.

We must have really been a money maker for Evo, cause I laugh every time I see a list of active servers. There's 84 all by its lonesome next one that hasn't been merged is in the high 120's. Who would it be fair for us to merge with even if we did?

Im in ss60 and along with a large proportion of the server i would like to say that merging isn't always a good thing. I joined on ss15 and it started to get too quiet, and evony gave me a birthday present that was ss49.
Things were going great, And our state war was just getting to the really juicy bit when POOF!
Just like that SS60 arrived... and that meant LAG LAG LAG LAG LAG LAG
Alot of decent players just up and quit, and theyve been slowly departing ever since.
The SS60 merger killed evony for alot of people, and a few of us go on through the lag hoping it'll all get better.

I don't believe that merging say any SSA with SSB would be a good thing, as each particular super server carries its own dead accounts and/or alt accounts that only clutter the maps. This would only cause congestion and only frustrate players further as action would only last a couple months and people would be back to complaining again. On this point alone, however shortsighted it may seem, Japanpimp is correct.

But after many months of fighting the same alliances, servers do get stale. People quit because they see no chance of being able to rise up and/or the "bigger" players join up together and no one rises to challenge them. At that point, wars become few and far between and people holiday/quit out of boredom as they no longer have that excitement of being able to challenge other unknown players. This is what is happening in ss42, as well as other servers im sure.

So, since merging any 2 super servers/regular servers brings too many issues why not start allowing players in group of servers/super servers to have the option to jump to into new servers as a way of merging them. That is, allow SS A,B,C,D, to merge into a SS 1,2,3 (for example) but allow people in SS A,B,C,D the ability to choose which super server they want to jump into. Those who do not choose a server to go into, i.e. dead accounts/inactives, simply get put into 1 particular server until they choose which server they wish to join. Then they can stay there or join an active server.

This idea is not original as many have stated it before in different parts. But people will continue to quit as long as there is no longer an element of risk and the unknown involved in this game. This is what makes the game much more fun for people like me. The risk of not having the majority of the alliances friendly with you or having your alts be in danger of getting wiped and not knowing who is really a big hitter vs. who is a big talker. Bring back this sense of fun and people will stay more active and want to continue to spend.
