I can also confirm lag is terrible on ss54.

I know many people are experiencing the same and it would be great if something was done about it.

evony is becoming the waiting game - wait till clock stops spinning; till page displays; till WR show and then wait again...

might be better if evony bought there own servers
these are all loaned from a hosting service

Leased, not loaned and it makes sense to use a dedicated server provider, the same as most online games do. After all, why invest a fortune in hardware and tech staff to manage it when your basic buisness is game development?

Half the problem is the flash programming which can fill your ram in no time and that can create what looks like server lag but is your computer slowing down because when ram runs out temp. files go onto the hard drive.

Still, the game still has a lot of lag issues and I would just stop logging in if it got that bad on my server for any length of time. I think new servers may be in the offing as na32 had a data transfer to a new server not too long ago.

Just don't forget to clear cache pretty regularly.

That "lag" would be more limited to a few people at any given time. The lag that most of these people are talking about is when it is noticable for everyone. I've repeatedly logged in and tested when I see comments about lag showing up. What are the odds that my normal server performs just fine, but the same exact computer, with the same exact memory usage and the same exact running processes, has difficulty with another server, that the difference between the two is located on my machine? I'll tell you - somewhere between "slim" and "none".

When I've noticed this lag, it is always something with the client idling waiting for the server to respond back with a chunk of data that the client has just requested. I've repeatedly suggested contacting someone involved with running a distributed computing project (BOINC, Folding@Home, distributed.net, etc...) in helping them debug / optimize database performance, but so far it looks like they want to just throw hardware at it, which may or may not help. If the database is suffering from a bad design, it may not scale up, even with better hardware, as the number of transactions per second required is just too much for the disk or memory subsystem to handle.

Just don't forget to clear cache pretty regularly.

Funny how all the complainers are the ones spending money despite their unanswered Evony prayers, endless lag and continuing problems. Stop spending money and Evony will get the message cause right now this forum isnt enough. Im gonna go ahead and call all you forum complainers fools cause you go from buying a package to complaining on the forums about lag. Congrats, you're a noob.

I did say there were lag issues with Evony servers so the selected quotes neko lord posted are just neko being neko. Simple solution is stop playing that server. I would.

So, I'm just being me, and you would stop playing on a server that you may have spent a significant amount of time and money on, just because it got like that, and you wouldn't bother trying to get the situation resolved, because people should just move on when there are problems and consider any time and money spent to just be an acceptable loss?

I'm really trying to understand here...but you're making it quite confusing.

Clearly you have not been on one of these servers when it's lagging out, or you'd understand what I'm talking about. This seems to be a problem endemic to people on these forums - a total lack of empathy if the problem is not specifically happening to them. Hell, I don't even have a problem with server lag, and I'm able to muster up a fair amount of empathy, because I have seen it while checking on claims from these people, who, according to you, should just move on...

A game is a game and time is wasted not invested playing games. It's not good that servers are having extreme lag issues and I have been on servers that were pretty bad. As I said, na32 had a data transfer recently to a new server so perhaps they will phase in some new servers over the coming months.

I am not saying burn everything on the laggy server and quit but continuing to spend money on sub-par game delivery is just money wasted as far as I can see. I have quit other MMO games after spending hundreds of dollars and months and even years of character development because of ping times making it impossible to compete in pvp compared to those located closer to the game server who didn't have the same lag issues. If an evony server becomes unplayable then it becomes a chat room with pictures and that doesn't interest me at all. Yes I would quit. It is just a game.

NA32 had a hardware fault. It wasn't some wave of benevolence that washed over the people behind the game making them have the idea of "let's make things better from a performance standpoint", but simply one of having to do what was done for things to work, period. If they hadn't done anything, that server would've been totally inoperative.

You made the comment that my prior comments were just "me being me". I don't think you quite understand that I watch more threads than what I type up responses to. I watch things and notice trends. That's my IT support / development / administration experience. It's just the way my brain is wired.

I've noticed that this lag trend has been one that has been "contagious", spreading to more and more servers. I don't know exactly why that is, but, to be completely honest, I had expected there to be additional problems cropping up after the last bout of "Incorrect Account or Password" issues last week. I didn't say anything at the time, because if I had, I would've been lambasted for being negative, in the same manner as the "neko being neko" comment that you made.

That is an option, but you are not all these other people. They have a right to request that any money that was spent be made to where the purchase has value, or to have the purchase refunded, at least on a prorated basis.

Further, ping times aren't much of an issue with this type of MMO due to the fact this isn't a "shooter". The bandwidth required for the messaging portion of this game is attainable over dialup. I want to say that there are also some people in the Arab world playing over satellite links, which have even more communications latency.

This all boils down to a general lack of understanding that the lag is server-side, not client-side, and not within the network infrastructure of the client, the client's ISP, or the peering points between the ISP and Evony's data center(s). The issue is completely within the jurisdiction of Evony and/or its' colocation provider, and, unfortunately, it is getting worse, as it is impacting more and more players.

So, frankly, unless you're telling people to move to a different game, then moving to another server may only just forestall the inevitable, barring a realization from the company that they have some serious issues brewing.
