you i have just read close to 14 pages of BS, first and foremost the BOTs are not causing the lag, the bots actually take up less band width to run than u logging in on Ur home computers, so stop complaining about the bots causing the problem, 90% of u are running them anyways and then complaining about ppl running them, second and most important, THIS IS A SS57 FORUM WE DON'T CARE ABOUT NS1 134 SS666, if ur not on our server stop posting here telling us its fine where u are we don't care, i have 7 different computer i can play evony on 2 at another location with a t1 line and top of the line desktops, and i get the same lag as at home on a 2 yr old cpu, so its not my connection or computer, its evony's equipment. i have spent the last 4 hrs trying to get on to feed my troops, im sure by now they are about to refuge, i am so sick of it, i will be hitting the delete button when i do get on, 152 runs fine on the same cpu ss57 lags and can not connect on so whoa eq is the problem?

Mostly incorrect. The only bandwidth savings attained from a bot is the bot typically doesn't scroll the map or chat.

At any rate, the amount of network traffic going back and forth for this game is so minor, that it can be played on dialup with ease. The only issue dialup users have is the download of the game client itself whenever they release an updated client, but that's because it is downloading a 3.6MB file.

See, there's this thing called "messaging". The game client and server both send short messages back and forth to communicate. These messages are text. Text is something that is highly compressable, so the bandwidth consumed is very low.

On the other hand, bots can do things faster than a human. Overall, a bot would generate more messages to and more messages from the server than a human player would. So, on the whole, a bot actually likely consumes more bandwidth.

However, I really doubt that's the issue, per se.

What I think is going on is the database engine on the server is getting bogged down doing database transactions. That is something that is not dependent upon your network bandwidth to the server, but on the physical server itself. When the transactions per second that the server can process drops, the rest of the transactions pile up in a queue. That would exhibit itself on our side of things as a spinning clock, waiting for what we had requested in a message to be processed and sent back to us by the server in a message.

The reason I think this is more likely than network-related issues is that when the network load from clients, human or bot, is completely removed during maintenance time, the maintenance time on these servers has increased by at least 10 times vs. servers that don't have this issue. That increase might be 20-30 times.

So, from there, if database I/O is the problem, then it's either hardware or issues with the database engine. My personal feeling is that it's an issue with the database engine, such as a badly fragmented index, a poorly optimized query, or a bad execution plan.

i have 7 different computer i can play evony on 2 at another location with a t1 line and top of the line desktops, and i get the same lag as at home on a 2 yr old cpu, so its not my connection or computer, its evony's equipment.
I do believe I have been saying that it's not customer equipment. For the record, a T1 is 1.544 Mbit/s. My cable modem gets me 3 - 3.25 Mbit down, and I have the slowest rate my cable provider offers, but at any rate, I don't think customer bandwidth has anything to do with it, as like I've said, people can play on dialup. In fact, I think there are a few people in the US military that are playing on either dialup or satellite...

this problem on our server is clearly a server side issue
and properly as said elsewhere a database problem as lag is in both scouts and warreports but also in simple things as buying and selling in market - and even in switching mayor for building

ss57 is still a very active server as we have hot wars going on whih mean there is alot of activity - so it might be teh amount of acting whih que up which make us lag

but it could be interesting if evony would tell us how much more - if any activities out server have compered to rest of the servers with similar history

and i have never seen food price at 2.5 i was dumping alot of ffod yesterday and i thing food price went from 5 to 3.5 but never lower then that - so i am rather sure that it would be very hard to drive spice to 2.5

    thanks milly for the sig

Soooooo no repsonse from the evony team .. and never saw the free upkeep yesterday... of course the response about the lag was

    Greetings,

We are aware of the issues with latency on SS57. We are currently working to resolve this as quickly as possible. As this issue affects all player equally we will not be providing any reimbursements, although we have placed the server into free upkeep mode. We fixed the hardware issue yesterday as well as added additional hardware to the server to reduce any latency issues. Apparently there is another issue, so please watch this thread for more info on SS57. http://bbs.evony.com/showthread.php?t=180154

The customer service department is not able to provide any reimbursements nor can we provide more information on this issue.

We know that this has been a long proces, thanks for bearing with us, the server should be working correctly shortly!

We're working on optimizing ss57 daily, and will notify the players when it is better. Until then, complaining here is fine, but it's not going to get the intermittent latency fixed quicker.

Additionally, there are rules against posting CS responses here.

Well it's not only the lag anymore. But a couple of people are unable to login in the last 12 or so hours.

NO REIMBURSEMENTS????? So basicly all the items i SPENT MONEY ON and had applied and lost are gone and won't get any compensation because it affected all the players equaly? I'm sure that there will be a lot of players that will think twice about spending any money on this game after that comment.I for one am very certain won't be spending anymore and quite a lot of my alliance members already cancelled their auto cents and will stop spending as well.
