It appears someone is definitely trying to get their post count up (for whatever reason) in this thread, but it's not Sobekeus...

Also, I hope everyone knows that there ARE places where freedom of speech doesn't apply. For instance - yelling 'Fire' in a crowded movie theater or 'Bomb' in an airport. It annoys me when people come on forums such as this and feel they can say whatever they want to whoever they want and try to claim freedom of speech...

Also, I do agree that there are forums (especially true of gaming forums where moderators also play the game) in which moderators do not rule consistently across the board. When that is the case and you know that's the case - feel free to leave the forum at any time.

I hate the "argument" that can be rephrased as follows: 'Like it or lump it.'

How about this instead, maybe if there's a problem, try to make it better?

e.g.: "If you complain about america that means you HATE america, so get out."

Maybe I like america but I'd like to make it even better instead of making it worse?

"If you complain about a forum that means you HATE the forum so leave"

Same thing. Now if you continually bash your head against the wall or just yell "OMIGAWD THE MODZZZ ON THIS BORED R SO STUPID AND SMELL LIKE POOP" then clearly that's not geting anyone anywhere and you probably should leave, but creating a topic to raise valid concerns where you feel a problem should be addressed is not something so crazy out of line.

At the end of the day the response to those topics can be whatever they want, either ignoring, closing down, response, whatever, and that response will likely dictate whether people in singles or en masse stay or go, but that doesn't mean that there's no reason to bring it up in the first place.

    Four reasons come to mind:

    1. Courtesy to the users. Some users might not appreciate being made an example to the public.

    2. Courtesy to the moderators. They should be able to perform their job without being at risk of being publically called out and put down by the public for it.

    3. Courtesy to everyone else. I think most agree the boards are generally more pleasant without arguments springing up everywhere about who did what or why this and that was or wasn't deserved, or why this person sucks or doesn't, and so on.

    4. Professional attitude. Things are usually better resolved when handled privately and civilly than when made a public spectacle.

In personal matters, I usually favour putting all cards on the table too. But in a professional atmosphere, that approach more often tends to be counter-productive, I think.

In regard to the freedom of speech thing, for however it was brought up here again, someone offered a nice explanation for that which I liked:

Freedom of Speech and the First Amendment apply to freedom from government regulation of your speech
Needless to say, Evony isn't part of the US government.

in response to number 2, why would the moderator be held publically responsible for doing their job. The only time that would occur would be if the moderator acted out of justification. Everybody knows on boards that if you mess up you get warned, banned or any other punishment and no matter how much complaining a person did, if the rest of the public saw it as unfair, then as a majority it would be deemed unfair to an extent.

If a user brings something up in public then they are prepared to be subject to the eye of scrutiny by their peers on the boards and as mods, scrutiny works both ways.

You cant always win every argument in life, but by careful selection you can have more idea on where you can succeed and where you can fail

i must agree i think there should be a thread were people can argue there infraction, i my self got one for using the word (Sugar Honey an Ice Tea) casually in a sentence and was sorta offended by that because i dont see it as a big deal because i didn't hurt anyones feelings i wasn't mean in any way.
So i think there should be thread were people can defend there actions and there wouldn't be any probs if there was a diligent moderation of the thread, im a admin of a gothic social network and we get a lot of problems on there but we saw that problem and got more mods on main chat and on forums and got a few people to randomly go through peoples profiles all day to find anyone arguing because we pride in been argument free and our members respond to the over all friendly environment.

If there was a thread with infringements put in there, people would very quickly learn what they can and cant do, how far mods can and cant be pushed, atm it just seems with a blind guess that some are pushed and some arent, and people just want equality
