You are always going to have that, regardless of the forum topic.

If the OP, or anyone else has a question for DS about his "promise," then they need to go to him privately. This is a matter of respect for all parties concerned, not the least of which is the Evony community. Having such obvious bait sitting there, is a cancer which serves no purpose other than to scare off new players.
Could enforcement be better, the answer is yes.
Could the Moderators do a better job, again yes.
There is always room for improvement.
I have to agree the thread you mentioned should have been closed, unless DS plans to address it. ( I know, I wouldn't)
in most cases a PM is the best way to handle conflicts. Unless there is 'public' concern, most enforcement actions should be keep private.

Again calling on my years of experience of operating a MMOG and several forums, you will find enforcement will be cyclic. From the hard core, banning at the first misstep, to the almost anything goes, and back.

Some key things to take from this thread,
Respect. Treat everyone with the same level of respect that you would expect treated with. (AKA the Golden Rule)
Conflicts. If you have a conflict with a moderator, or another forumuser, or even an administrator, PM them. Unless the is an inherent public interest, keep it off the boards.

My approach is fairly simple: Unless it involves the community (in total, not just a few whiners), then keep it private.

Dirty laundry is not meant to be seen unless its in your yard... and its not yours... and there are huge granny panties.. ERP! I just thre up a little.. in my mouth.

Ah yes, because the number of posts is SO indicative of their individual worth.

I have yet to see anything from vulgar that wasn't flamebait or just plain whining.

Some will argue that issue regarding discipline does involve the community has a whole. And other will say the moderators will ban whoever whenever they please and the moderators need to be kept in check by the community. I know that is not the case.

Going back to some of my original statements on the issues; The moderators do not answer to the community. They are selected by Evony/UMGE to moderate the forums. They answer directly to Evony/UMGE. Enforcement issues are for the moderators and Evony/UMGE to deal with, not the community.

As far as the community as a whole is concerned, they need to know and follow the rules, and know that if they break the rules there will be repercussions.

There should at least be some better terminology.

    Bans are permantent.
Suspenstions are for a period of time.

If necessary, then yeah. I tend not to read rules, but the only term I have seen used is "ban"

I was just being a bit mean to a queeny, and mods have this idea they need to personally defend posters against softy insults by whacking the banhammer. It's bs..

    Anyways,

Obviously I didn't close it, but I can understand the position of closing it. It was partially a discussion, but at the same time it was completely insulting to the person who it was posted about. Maybe it wasn't openly insulting, but it vaguely seemed like people were gloating about a person being banned.

Maybe that's not why it was closed, but that's definitely not the type of post I'd want to condone. :P

You've got a way with words, Kemp, you should start a 'good' discussion about it.
Sukasai is right when he says it can be embarassing to the offender, I mean like it was like my 2nd day actually posting on these boards and I get banned after 2 infractions. A thread about that is not something I'd prefer...
