I see it coming up often that people insist it was an intended mechanic due to its age. It's not an intended mechanic until design has stated that the mechanic works as intended. There are a lot of factors that go into bug triage, and bug fixing: impact, resource cost, risk (to the codebase or otherwise), time to fix, interaction with other open bugs, etc.
While it was obvious that things were not working as intended, people used the exploit, and we understand why - it gave a significant advantage.
A common clause in TOU/TOSs is that use of an exploit/bug/hole can be punished up to banning. We've made no attempts to suspend, finger wag, or ban anyone that used this exploit, nor will we for this one.
As for people reporting it? I don't know, I know of only one report, and that was the one that I received. At the end of the day, the bug created a major imbalance, we fixed it, and we can move on to the next bug fixes and feature development.
