Badblood, I consider us to be at an understanding on our previous discussion--we agree to disagree, so this isn't me hounding you. I did, however, answer a post similar to yours a number of pages back, and here's an excerpt:
"Why does captcha rotate, break lines in, fuzz out characters? Is it so they are not in line in a way that is easy to decode for a computer? Do the many posts of people *not* claiming to have dyslexia or visual impairments, but who also find captcha frustrating to decipher, not add to the premise that captcha can be very difficult to read?
If we can agree that captcha is at least somewhat harder to read than in-line, unaltered text, would it not then be fair to say that a person who might have some degree of difficulty with game chat or finding enemy cities would have more trouble when the text is not what the brain has been trained to decipher?
So, respectfully, this is a legitimate concern if it makes gameplay less accessible to those with dyslexia and/or visual impairments..."
What I took out b4 and after was bassically to say that someone that is barely able to play for the reasons you have questioned (can barely see the numbers for troop counts, etc., but can still just barely see them) might be incapable of reading captcha, which I have found to be very difficult to decipher myself (another reason for me to object to this game intrusion).
I agree, like you said, that this game isn't a necessity and might not be legally covered under ADA, but as someone who does fall under some ADA protection for other reasons, I do believe in the premise that even though evony might not be required to make efforts to serve a broader base of the population, it would be very good for them to attempt to do so. For me, it falls along similar lines to the honor/integrity ideals you have held up with respect to gameplay. Adding a non-game hurdle in the game that might exclude some from playing is not an honorable concept. "Sorry buddy, you can't play now because we want to make the game better for others." You are concerned about fairness in the game w/r/t botters, so why not w/r/t people who can barely get by seeing the game as it is? An ADA-complient captcha would possible serve both purposes (though I still object to the game intrusion).
I'm glad people like you are passionate about the game, but I'd hope you can learn that discussion is better had when phrases like "sounds like complete and utter BS" could be phrased more like "Though a legitimate issue for some, for the reasons I have stated I find it more likely that people use the possibility of reading issues caused by dyslexia or poor vision as an excuse to argue against this latest effort by evony to curb botting." That way you don't come off like you are calling people liars with no evidence to back up such an accusation other than your opinion, or that you don't care about others and as long as a change doesn't affect you negatively. I don't object to your opinion, but if you dismiss the opinions of others based solely on your feelings that they are BS, you open the door for others to do the same to you. Not very productive.
Btw, though I do not believe it plays a part in my difficluty with captcha, I do have an actual written diagnosis that includes some form of dyslexia, which is possibly why I see this as a legitimate issue.
