Thread: Captchas Now Testing on ss57 and ss60

On skype, I was talking to some old friends for a SS I used to play. I quit before the 3rd merger (over crowding). Anyway this alliance consists of 80+members 50 active rest are feeders. The feeders are botted 24/7, most of the main accounts are not.

Of the 50 active members, all have at least 20 vestas. My buddy has 32 vestas, in the last 3 weeks he has accept 125 Evony Chests and is sitting on 625 chests. Minus the probably 100 he has already purchased.

Once the captcha is implemented, some will holiday in hopes of a workaround or something like that. Most will quit and procede to chargeback.

If evony thinks they will not lose income from this they are stupid.

I do not personally bot, but I rely on other bots to feed me. I have a life now because I can port once or twice a week and feed my -150mil warcity easily. My other cities I farm manually with surplus. Plus I have 26 vestas stacked .

If I cant keep at least a -150mil warcity, I will stop playing. We have grown accustomed to huge wars, killings 10s of millions of troops in an 1hrs time.

You really want to stop the lag stop the feeders....the alts and the fillers.

I am betting that new account creation takes up allot of bandwidth. And all the cities sitting with only 5k trans and 5k ballistas farming none stop eats it up.

Plus, people will find a way to cheat. The captcha will just change cheaters tactics, for example now they will just purchase all the Prinz accounts they can find. Cap 10 lvl 10s, build warriors and power lvl poli heroes then farm those feeders. Getting 20mil loss less food per hour, on top of their lvl 10 farming.

Cheaters will cheat, but it is fun beating the cheaters .

I understand people wanting to remove bots but after reading all of this i am positive their must be a better way. Ive heard talk of bots already testing to get around the captcha so in the end all that evony is doing is making it harder on the non botters, and maybe it wont always happen while you are under attack or defending but when it does if the timing is bad could cost you alot while the botters are still laughing, doesnt seem fair, I also agree with gotti, I have kids so i am in and out all of the time, i like to come back and be able to catch up on the chat i missed or whispers. In my opinion the way to get rid of botters is not to make evony irritating for all players. Like was said a long time ago remove the reasons they feel the need to bot, those with wifes, families, jobs, cant survive when the troops eat so much they have to farm all day and some people have problems asking for resources or help, move the consumption in age1 closer to that of age2, find a way to fix the need. But unless evony is trying to kill age1, captcha's dont seem like the best solution.

You are the perfect example of the very reason of bot existence: you made up some excuse in your mind for using a cheating tool that ruin the game experience for honest hard working gamers just so you can have an easy way to showoff your "big" army that required no work to feed it.
I hope you and those that think like you will quit for good once this capcha system gets rolling.

And of course, this doesn't stop them from reading alliance chat, or finding that lvl 1 enemy city in the sea of reds in a 200x200 square state littered w/ dead accounts, blues, greens, reds, grays, and whatsnots

Please let me know if it is unfair to re-word your post to say "I think all the people who complain about the unreadability of captcha due to dyslexia or a visual imairment are lying about their conditions or are exaggerating about how their conditions affect their ability to decipher captcha." At least you could be straight-forward about it.

First, complaints come out when changes are made. People with these conditions find out if they can play the game with their condition, and if they can't, they don't, so why would they complain on a forum if they can already function well enough to play? In this instance, with this change, for someone who finds it difficult to read to begin with, perhaps captcha might just be too much for them. I have very mild dyslexia, and despite the fact that I don't believe it has an effect on my ability to know what a letter is supposed to be, I OFTEN get captcha wrong. Am I lying and/or whining? Feel free to give your honest opinion, as I am giving you my honest experience.
(Mind you that my protest posts do not make the claim that *I* will be unable to perform captcha, only that *some* will not)

Why does captcha rotate, break lines in, fuzz out characters? Is it so they are not in line in a way that is easy to decode for a computer? Do the many posts of people *not* claiming to have dyslexia or visual impairments, but who also find captcha frustrating to decipher, not add to the premise that captcha can be very difficult to read?

If we can agree that captcha is at least somewhat harder to read than in-line, unaltered text, would it not then be fair to say that a person who might have some degree of difficulty with game chat or finding enemy cities would have more trouble when the text is not what the brain has been trained to decipher?

So, respectfully, this is a legitimate concern if it makes gameplay less accessible to those with dyslexia and/or visual impairments. I'm sure those who do suffer from those conditions would appreciate your compassion rather than your assumptions that they are lying or just not trying hard enough.

Well said Aetius. People that cheat will come up with any kind of backwards logic to justify their cheating. If they had to play on a level playing field like the rest of us, they'd have their backsides handed to them. I'll take the headaches that may come with this new system if it makes the botters stop botting. Evony won't lose money on this because people will start buying more teleports again because capping cities won't be next to impossible anymore. Right now it's a waste of money to port. Back on server one, I remember one war where BoB (a coalition) capped 92 cities of one alliance in a day. On SS58 there is a major war, and between the two top alliances they have only lost 15 cities combined, in about THREE WEEKS. No sense even porting if a bot is gonna be comforting them. The game was far more exciting and fun back in the early days. Not to say it still isn't a great game, but it has certainly changed for the worse with all the cheaters botting away. I am rarely on Evony's side in most things, have been banned from the forum numerous times for starting threads they didn't agree with, but this time, I have to side with them, it's only right.

I'll add to the squeak of the wheel. The Evony reps have spoken to some issues but have NOT answered this question, stated in several forms:

Is Evony prepared to compensate players who lose troops/heroes/resources in the unlikely, but possible, instance that a captcha pops up, preventing a recall of troops, closing of gates, timing of attacs, etc.???

How likely is it that captcha will interfere with game play?...
3,600 seconds in one hour. That's a 1 in 3,600 chance that it pops up. I'm not even asking for one to assume the reality that after the suprise of the popup, moving the cursor to the X to click, and getting the cursor back to the button one intended to click takes more than one second. If you're feeling generous and would like to give me the 3 seconds I think is reasonable, then that ratio is down to 1 in 1,200. If you have ignored popups or failed captcha multiple times, perhaps that's down to 1 in 600.

I am not implying that every hour you will have a 1 in 600 chance to lose an army or a hero due to captcha, but in any given hour of attacking/defending, that ratio is simply unacceptable to me, when servers without captcha have NO chance of that happening due to captcha.

This is what I find to be unacceptable. I think it is reasonalbe that we should have an answer. If you want the same question answered, I suggest you pose the question in your own words (NOT spamming, but making your voice legitimately known).

Evony is no longer handicap accessible.

i have 20/20 vision and i still get those captcha wrong no matter if it looks right. they are highly unreadable or you miss that it was a cap not lower case, or they are burred and poorly written as if a preschooler designed those.

and pop-ups really? are you guys that clueless to not realize NO ONE likes pop ups of any kind.... ever. and the first one that makes me miss a gate open or a timed launch and forced to recall a multi city attack and loose all the food... yeah you can bet i will walk away.

and if these bot makers have figured out how to code your client, what is going to stop them from coding a patch over the Captcha? then we are left with only legit players being punished.... thats just an awesome idea on so many levels.

this is where tribalwars got it right. put a cap on the troop limits, and remove food as an upkeep.... presto no need for bot farmers anymore. we have been telling this to you for so long yet you refuse to listen. so enjoy your next move that cuts off your nose to spite your face. You will lose as many if not more legit players as you do botters... bet that will be a smart move for the paycheck! enjoy unemployment.

I leave you with this quote from 1983 movie "War Games"

[after playing out all possible outcomes for Global Thermonuclear War]
    Joshua: Greetings, Professor Falken.
    Stephen Falken: Hello, Joshua.
Joshua: A strange game. The only winning move is not to play. How about a nice game of chess?

Odds of getting hemorrhoids: 25 to 1. I guess 600 to 1 doesn't sound so bad now, does it?
