sword bombs are effetive in very rare circumstances, Ie. if there are no towers.. if tehre are no balls/pults..

You wont find a city with no towers, or no balls/pults, and if u do.. odds are your gonna jaq it. or pike bomb it. Even tho swords get a bonus vs archers, pikes are better for bombin....

Pikes, in the situation with no ballistae, do the job fine.
I've found that with 1k ballistae and 1k swords alongside those archers, they get slaughtered while the defender loses about 3k archers. For Swords under the 1k Balls/Swords with the archers, still kill about 150k archers

The reason pike/sword/cavs/phrax work so well against archers is simple. Archers' attack depends on the range: once past optimum range, the closer the enemy, the weaker the archers. By the time short-ranged units are in range of archers, archers have close to no attack strength and they just get torn apart without putting up a fight.

The trick is in getting your units close enough to the archers before they die. Layers will slow you down; t/a/d will lengthen the distance; so they must be eliminated BEFORE.

Also, pikes work better than swords for 2 reasons:

1. They are faster: they are within optimal range of archers for 1 less round
2. They have higher attack: they tear through the archers faster.

You will notice that sword attacks always take more rounds than pike attacks.

-cavs can only be used for offence and are a lot more expensive to build and feed.

Thus, swords/pikes are typically used by casual players who can't be arsed to farm all day, or in the early days of a server.

I see what you ae saying but cavs are very good in certain situations for d ... use them along with arch and phracts and the right hero and it works ok
