Rep is as powerful as you let it be. If you dont think rep is important, ignore it and go along with your business. There is no need to get twisted panties over trolls who have too much rep or epic posters who have none at all. There is no need to get involved with who the "kewl" people are and who is the current witch getting burned of the week. If YOU respect someone, do it. If you dont, then dont. Thats whats awesome about the internet, it just doesn't matter.

The problem here is reality.
In reality, new forum members, new game players, etc... wwho come to the forums for information about the game will gravitate towards and "trust" the "veteran" posters who have all the green bars.
The other problem is that "reputation" is not very welcoming to new members. Just because a inexperienced player says something off they get red rep'd and feel like a community outcast.
Reputation does nothing to actually help the community. All it does is cause cause others to get misleaded and follow a poster who has lots of cool green bars and disrespect the noob poster who has all the red bars.
How does rep actually help the community?
The pros do not outweigh the cons. I have been on internet communities since before web browsers were created ans we all chatted at command prompt.
Does FB or other social sites have rep? No, they do not. Because it causes strife, divisions and jealousies in communities, not cohesion.
Disable the rep.
I'm saying rep doesn't matter at all. you're saying rep makes new people think it matters thus it should be trashed.

I think rep is insignificant when dealing with new members to the forums. Maybe they are drawn first to those of us with newer rep, however just because someone is new does not automatically mean they are an idiot. if it's someone they realise they wouldn't want to associate with, it becomes obvious rather quickly If not then thats their own problem.

Why is rep considered the reason that new people aren't so comfortable? I think rep is just an excuse tbh. Nothing stops anyone from sending a new person a PM saying hey welcome to the forums this is what to look out for blah blah blah. Rep doesnt effect anything on the forums beyond the ability to red rep and we've already established it's not important. If your concern is new people the answer is simple, reach out to them.

It's just like going to a party where you dont know anyone. It can go one of two ways, insanely awkward or a blast. In order for it to be a blast, BOTH you and the group of people have to meet in the middle some what
