    Default [INTEREST CHECK] Detective game?

    This is a new game proposition; if you're interested, or have propositions to improve the game, please post. CnC is welcome.

    Basics:
    • There is a murder;
    • Each participant has 2 characters: the murderer and the detective;
    • The murderer gains EXP points if he escapes justice (the longer he does, the more EXP points he gets);
    • The detective receives EXP points for helping in solving a case, or solving it;
    • After a certain amount of EXP, you can choose to level up and gain new skills;
    • The plot: [Players]/6 (rounded down) witnesses, [Players]/6 (rounded down) potential victims, one killer, the rest detectives;
    • Witnesses and the first victim are not controlled by players. The second and third (potential) victims are;
    • The killer may or may not strike again and kill a detective or a witness. He does so by PMing the game master.
    • The killer may strike up to 2 additional times, and has a 70% then 50% success rate (At lvl0);
    • If the killer succeeds, the witness/detective dies; the killer might leave some evidence behind, but not much (even at lvl0). If he fails his attempt, the victim who survived gains additional information about the murderer (mostly, a quick description);

    • The game is round based (1 day rounds);
    • For every round, the killer may perform one action; same for detectives;
    • Detectives win the game by identifying the killer and providing supporting evidence.

    Lvls & Skills:
    Detectives:
    Lv0 (0 EXP): Can perform basic investigation actions:
    • Can search crime scene (60% chance of finding each piece of evidence)
    • Can interrogate witnesses (50% chance of getting the most out of them)

    Lv1 (5 EXP): Can choose to tail a suspect, possibly receiving useful information:
    • Tail a suspect (35% chance of succeeding)

    Lv2 (12 EXP): Improved intuition and skills:
    • Can search crime scene (70% chance of finding each piece of evidence)
    • Can interrogate witnesses (60% chance of getting the most out of them)
    • Tail a suspect (45% chance of succeeding)

    Lv3 (20 EXP): May investigate a suspect:
    • Investigate a suspect (30% of succeeding; investigation indicates if the suspect is innocent or related to the murder)

    Lv4 (35 EXP): Improved intuition and skills:
    • Can search crime scene (75% chance of finding each piece of evidence)
    • Can interrogate witnesses (70% chance of getting the most out of them)
    • Tail a suspect (55% chance of succeeding)
    • Investigate a suspect (40% of succeeding; investigation indicates if the suspect is innocent or related to the murder)

    Murderer:
    Lv0 (0 EXP): Amateur, doesn't have many resources except his hands:
    • Can strike again, killing a detective or a witness, up to 2 times (70% then 50% chance of succeeding)

    Lv1 (5 EXP): Already getting the hang of murders, can plant fake evidence
    • Plant fake evidence (50% chance of succeeding)

    Lv2 (12 EXP): Improved skills:
    • Can strike again, killing a detective or a witness, up to 2 times (75% then 55% chance of succeeding)
    • Plant fake evidence (60% chance of succeeding)

    Lv3 (20 EXP): Realizes that he won't go far without being able to manipulate the others... can now convince a witness of changing his testimony:
    • Convince a witness of changing his testimony (40% success rate)

    Lv4 (35 EXP): Improved skills:
    • Can strike again, killing a detective or a witness, up to 2 times (80% then 60% chance of succeeding)
    • Plant fake evidence (66% chance of succeeding)
    • Convince a witness of changing his testimony (50% success rate)

    Additional Info: Witnesses may change their statements, on their own, after the murder. While the information they provide is helpful, it might not be 100% precise.
    Anyone interested?

    Seriously? The other week I was thinking about creating a forum based detective game. So I definitely say yes! Also, would the murderer be another person on the forums or just fictional goop? Im also willing to help with the dirty bits of managing the game.

    Great

    For the murderer, unless someone suggests a better idea, he's going to be a fictional goop.

    Think it would be more entertaining to have a real member as the murderer

    Ok, how about this, then:

    Every participant has two "characters":
    • The detective (gains points for solving cases / helping in solving cases)
    • The murderer (gains points for evading justice)

    I can't figure out how the murderer would be picked, tho. Randomly? And what about the scenario? Does the murderer play part in making it, or should I make it alone?

    Yep, you could pick the murderer randomly and make sure you keep it incognitio... All the detectives could work together to find out who the murderer is, but one of the detectives IS the murderer...? maybe?

    Sounds like fun You should make it so you have for each murder
    2 witnesses
    1 killer
    3 victim
    2 family members
    10 suspects
    everyone else has to figure it out who did it.

    Then The killer strikes 3 times and can kill any of the victems (pre determined) and then after the three murders every one has to figure it out throughout suspects and witnesses. The 3 murders occur throughout the 1 day each 3-5 hours apart and by the end the people haveto figure it out.
