There is extreme irony here.
SS58 was merged on December 6, 2010. It's oldest servers trace back to opening on November 6, 2009.
The server I'm on, N4, was merged on December 24, 2009. Yes, Christmas Eve. It was actually already Christmas Day, a global holiday, in parts of the world when the merge happened. December 24th was only a mere 48 days since the oldest servers making up a part of SS58 had just started. From December 16th through December 28th, there were multiple major snowstorm events in the US, knocking out power where a large percentage of Evony players live (stats show the US has the most number of players). Where I live had a record 24-hour snowfall during one of the storms and the total was the second highest snowfall amount in the area's recorded history.
The impact on N4 due to all of this was we had a large drop in players. We had people coming back on in early January to find themselves alliance-less and plundered or cities taken. The earliest merges kicked everyone out of their alliances and you had to reform the alliance.
Also, servers N1, N2, N3, WN1, WN2, WN3, and WN4 were merged before N4 and experienced the same kicked-out-of alliance issues and other issues, although they didn't have the global holiday and major storm issues, with the exception of N3, which was on the front-end of some of the storms and had their 7-day truce period during that week.
So, I ask you the same question...if you're going to kick and scream a lot?
One thing that has been proven with these latest merges is that Evony still:
- Doesn't have a solution to the flat-filling.
- Doesn't have a solution to the dead accounts where people have quit, but spent money.
- Doesn't have a solution to the login problems affecting these servers.
- Doesn't have a solution to the issue of maintenances taking longer than normal.
- Doesn't have a solution to the issue of multiaccounting.
- Doesn't have a game-wide solution for botting, only a disputed, half-implemented partial solution on two servers
Yes, it's a pain to be on an unmerged server, but given all of the "doesn't have a solution" items listed above, a merge is definitely not a long-term solution, and possibly not even a mid-term one. It may improve things slightly for a maximum of 3 months, but then it's right back into the same problems because of Evony's lack of effort into fixing issues.
