I think many people are asked to host and feel responsible to the people they game with. I doubt many successful alliances are run by people who just want to feel in control. The reality is, you don't control much. At best, being a leader means you organize and coordinate your members. At worst, its like herding cats.

Lmao herding cats I love that cos there is some truth there. I have been playing this game for over 2 and half years now and have ended up host or VH of virtually every alliance I have ever been in. Sometimes the diplo can get a bit much I have to admit, sometimes the little dramas have been way too much and especially when everyone tends to look at you to end it.

I have never ran an alliance as I say you do, that has and will never work, 'Don't talk on WC'. seriously??? that is a common one that I have come up against, Most of the players here are adults or at least old enough to make adult decisions, who the hell would I or any other host be to to order someone to stay off WC.

I see my job as simple, I try and keep focus on our goals, the alliance is not 'mine' cos I am the host, the alliance belongs to all members and I try and have them all involved in major decisions. As host is I am the one point in my alliance that sounds off the feelings and beliefs of my members to those outwith my alliance. A big part of being a host is to try and understand people, and even when they are being unreasonable or generally very silly with their little games and try and keep a sense of perspective among the members in the alliance.

Any of the members that requires help, if I cannot help them myself, I make sure that someone else in alliance does.

A common complaint in most alliances is the lack of support apart from the lucky few. I try to encourage all to do what they are capable of doing and helping them where they are lacking. Most important of all is to try and keep the fun element there, even if it is just in AC.

I feel that I am merely scraping the surface of what most responsible hosts do here, but believe me it IS NOT always easy. I remember with fondness the days when I was just a soldier, but at the same time would not have things any other way. Host or soldier all good to me at the end of the day
