Thanks for the response. That's certainly a plausible explanation, so I greatly appreciate the response.
That said, if that's the case, then it needs to be described on the captcha screen itself, not just some "gee, I wonder what happens if I click here" thing. All that would be required is some text on the in-game popup window providing those instructions. The actual industry standard for a refresh is a button with two arrows. Is it no wonder that so many people just cancel out and get it marked against them, when the whole process of getting another WITHOUT having it count against them is not described anywhere at all?
Again, this is not being "pessimistic" or whatever, it's just a real-world, pratical evaluation being given from the perspective of someone who worked on UI/UX elements for a company with multi-billion dollar annual sales.
