    On topic:

a Lot of Stephen Kings stuff i love, particularly his Dark Tower Series. i was 16 when i read them, so there not horror. (Ignore the fact i was reading ww2 historys when i was 8...,teachers couldnt belive some of the things i put on my *this is what i read last week* sheets (not my fault my dads a history nut and he has tonnes of History books, and i love reading)

also Odd Series by Dean Koonts is a good read.

Wheel of Time series by Robert Jordan is a really good one that I enjoy. Particularly first 3 books.

Or A Song Of Ice And Fire by George R.R. Martin as well.

Or most books by Robert Ludlum are pretty good as well.

    Dracula! Bram Stoker's Dracula.
I'm always surprised by how many people haven't read it.. it's really very good.

I can heartily recommend Discworld books by Terry Prattchet, each one has its own character and a series of events that happen in them. The best part is the fact that the books are all linked (Characters from one book talk will often interfere with others).
The first book in the series is the Colour of Magic, which is followed by its sequel The Light Fantastic. So yeah, read and enjoy.
I have no need for a signature, I believe in inner- Hey, why are you reading this?

Oh well, this might be a bit old, but I have refrained from posting here till I was done with the last book of the Inheritance cycle (Eragon).

Since everyone's suggested Harry Potter... I'd suggest Eragon. Its universe is pretty much the richest I've seen since Lord of the Rings (read that if you haven't, it might be quite large if you get the original version, but it should be worth it).

Stay away from the Knights of Emerald and similar books that, while they do contain a good idea, only deliver a poorly developed and imagined world that would fail to entertain anyone who's read any books where you might find some actually elaborate worlds.

Lord of the Ring is recommended if you haven't read it yet. heathen!

A Song of Fire and Ice may not be so good if your looking for something that isn't 18+

Another series that I'm reading is Tales of the Otori. It takes place in feudal Japan, but with some fantasy and no samurais. Can contain 18+ scenes, but nothing like A Song of Fire and Ice.

I agree the inheritance books was one of the best cycle I have ever read Ithen I enjoyed Artemis fowl and The DoomSpell trilogy but It is quite confusing to follow that trilogy but you could try then The Percy Jackson series was good to me aswell (as you laid down fantasy as a genre and since I don't read sci fi I might aswell but down the books I have read in it lol)
