I am on topic. The topic is business models.

You say you know busniness models because you taught economics.

Your reply to my first posit was so weak, I had to clarify to be sure you even have a clue what you are talking about. http://bbs.evony.com/showpost.php?p=144897&postcount=23

"Banks are greedy." That is an incredibly weak statement. So, someone who gets a loan for $350,000 on a home which is only worth $70,000, then it is the bank being greedy?

This is completely on topic, mods.

Actually, the topic is EVONY Business Model. I wasn't aware Evony was into real estate and banking?

Ok, since there is confusion, I will reset the topic:

1.) What do you think is the Evony business model? Is their primary objective:
    a.) To make money
b.) To make a fun game
    or
    c.) Both

    And

2.) How well do you think they are going about doing a, b, and c?

The goal of any business is to make money, and make some contacts. Hopefully those contacts will help you make more money, so you can meet more contacts.

Any online game has to be fun & challenging for anyone to want to play. Evony can be fun, and there is some challenges. However, there is anti-climatic end. Once your have max your cities, troops, research, etc. then what? Save the non-existent queen from a almost certain doom?

Looking at a couple of the most successful on-line games. There was always something to do, a quest to complete, or some item to acquire. It may not have alway followed the story line, but it was something to do, and there was some risk involved, you could and sometimes did fail. That is what made it entertaining. The mission can be completed, but can you complete it?

In today's business climate, we have to honest, money is tight. One of the first things that gets hacked out of families' budget is entertainment. This includes eating out, vacations, and on-line gaming. People need to see some kind of value before they will spend any money and in today's world, where money is tight, you have to show exceptional value.

Evony is off to a good start. However they have a long way to go. There are some problems, and not just with game play (the developers will eventually get it straighten out), There seems to be a problem with customer service. having customer service problems will kill an company faster than you can sell your Enron stock.

I do not intend to be a part of the problem, rather a part of the solution. I have submitted my Resume to Evony/UMGE to join their customer service team. My goal is to get people off these boards complaining about this or that, and back in the game, plotting how they will take down their enemy, and save the queen.

Well said Clark and i fully agree with everything you have said.

I as well have applied to several positions inside Evony, no responses yet but i really am looking forward to getting this game sorted and like you said, get people off the boards and back in the games where these forums originate from.

Let's face the facts here -
Evony business ways are not acceptable to the players. If there are no players, then there will be no evony. Wich would be a terrible shame because i do feel this game has alot of potential. But it's looking like here if things don't end up changing then soon people are going to get upset and not end up playing....

But either way, i do like the game, even though alot of things need to be addressed and improved, but i would really hate to see anything happen to it because of these issues

I think it's clear the game is designed just to make a quick buck... most people follow the same cycle, play for a month (when it's rather addicting) and then realize there is no end game and quit.

In direct reaction to the guys above me, I'm not applying for anything for the simple fact that i'm a bookkeeper. I am purely a player and i still will play the game for the fun...

I'm also not going to spend money, but the meeting part is good, i love helping new players, that's a real good thing to do. As said in my earlier post, because i don't spend money, for me the game is endless, i still will have challenges.

and nor should you have to apply for a position.
but you took time out to write your post. There is too much traffic on this board. The time people spend reading, posting, could be better spent in game. If selected by Evony, that wold be my goal.

But the challenges will always be the same.
attack an NPC or an opponent. (you or an alliance)
defend from an attack. (you or your alliance)
the hunt for medals for a promotion.
    the acquiring of recourses
Should there be more, thought provoking challenges? You know what, that is for the Evony development team to figure out. It is however part of the total package for marketing.

    (getting back on topic)

If people are experiencing problems with the game itself, lost or forgotten passwords, lost game coins, troops disappearing into black holes, etc. to the point that they come this board and complain, that is a problem. This is where Evony as a company will either shine, or fail.

If Evony, doesn't take care of their customers, somebody else will.

To be fair, there will alway be a few, (an you know who you are) who scream foul on every message board, when they lose a battle, or something didn't go as they expected. These folks need to be dealt with as well. (Mods, I do not envy your job)

Evony/UMGE success will not be determined by how well things go right, rather how they react when things go sour.

Out of fairness, I won't be commenting on this topic further. Enjoy the conversation.
