well i wish there was just somthing that stopped bots at all. I mean i know a lot of people who use a bot because it is the only way they can get enough troops to compete with the true botters, even if just defending. It is very annoying and it lowers the fun of the game. I for 1 wouldnt mind captcha's as long as it truly prefents botters from using a bot. I think you can get quite difficult ones, depending on the captcha producer used (i read this somewhere).
Anyway i would love any methode that would prefent botters from botting. so what we have less troops.... that is how it was in the past and it makes the game more of a strategy game then it has become now. lol i think this comment will make some mad at me lol but i am getting enough of the botters lol.
I don't think it is either I've been playing my account on ss61 since we've had captcha introduced today. There is still some but it's been a lot better.
Well the only real way is to ban them. Thantium on the feedback site posted a comment that Evony are working harder then ever at finding and punishing the culprits. Trouble is many players who do cheat reckon that Evony don't do anything about so they've got nothing to worry about.
As for captcha it doesn't stop them but it makes it much, much harder to get the full benefit. I did say I'll post a fair comment on how I thought captcha worked. It hasn't gotten rid of the lag, but it's better. I and others are finding full NPC's which I can tell you is a novelty on ss61. As for frequency after doing two full farm runs over a 12hr period I got the grand total of one captcha.
Thanks to Infinitus for the epic B'day pressie!
Decaptcha services are "human farms". The image is sent to the "farm" (in India where labor is cheap) and a human returns the response. No matter how difficult you make the captcha, a human always reads and answers it.
A by-product of introducing a more difficult captcha is increasing the bandwidth usage the stream requires to get the more difficult captcha to the web client. Evony has to balance the difficulty along with the frequency of showing captchas. The more frequent the bots see them, the more bandwidth they use to answer them ... and they never get it right the first time. Guess the sweat shops in India have just as difficult a time as regular players in figuring out what each character really is too.
The captcha is certainly slowing down the bot (meaning for that moment in time the bot has to stop spamming the server with commands), but it will never eliminate it 100%. That has to come from within evony.
I would have to agree, only a bit better. Though after seeing that you did 2 full farm runs and had 1 captcha, that would explain possibly why after doing more than you I may have received more. The strange part is the timing of them. By this I mean, the time between captcha requests. I started keeping track of them today using servertime as a reference and this is what I have received.
Login: 17:15 - No captcha...I had been signed in a couple hours before and did a few
Captcha: 19:13 - got on first attempt
Captcha: 19:41 - second attempt O/0..ugh
Captcha: 20:24 - first attempt
Captcha: 22:17 - second attempt - 2 letters half off the screen
Captcha: 23:33 - first attempt
Captcha: 00:08 - second attempt - one more to look at Z/2..you should notice that there are no curves in the letter 'Z'...fix the captcha
Servertime now: 00:10
Only thing I see as the difference is the increase of farming. You start hitting the cities close by and then expand outward. This could be the reason for the short times between, because 2 waves were being sent out and then third waves. I dunno, only a guess.
The few things I will say to Evony is this. These have not been as intrusive as I initially thought they would be and I am not afraid to let you know this. Though you seriously need to work on the letters and numbers you are using. Do you realize that even car manufacturers do not use a capital 'O' in the VIN due to the confusion with the zero. They do not use a capital 'I' because of the confusion with the number one. Also, they only use capital letters, same as license plates, as to not further confuse the issue.
The very first captcha I received had a 1/I and I missed it. The next had a O/0 and I missed it. Then the next had another 1/I/l which was missed. The fourth contained neither and was solved correctly. You really need to think about changing these few things.

The 0/O isn't too bad for me but have you noticed that the uppercase I looks identical to the lowercase L. Gets me every time.![]()
