Lol apple is a successful business for a reason.

For instance they recently successfully aquired a patent on smart phone/ipad technology. Their patent is for the "slide to unlock" technology. They allegedly filed for the patent before the original iphone came out, and it just now got passed. So anything that uses that technology could face being sued by Apple (droid, all the other tablets etc).

Is it petty? absolutely? is it genius? absolutely. They have to be careful though, if they gain the monopoly they seem to be seeking, eventually the government could get involved and ruin them like it did for the phone companies (at&t)
