Default Battering Ram: Useful or waste of resources?

I've read some of the debate on Battering Rams and to get the flavor of opinion about the Battering Ram, I've put up a poll.

Same here. The ingame description of them is wrong, but so is the one on swords.

you can use the exercise option in rally point to really show its usefulness

Sorry, but exercise lies. Rams are very good meat shields for seige, but just sending one is not going to be very effective as mass units can still kill it very quickly. I prefered the 50k seige, 20k Ram, 30k cataphract. Best general assault army I've ever used.

Too easily killed to justify its cost. Maybe if they got a minor defense tweak they'd be a bit higher on the build queue

Remember though, because of their high base stats, they get a massive tech boost. Building resources aren't the problem in the game, it's food upkeep.

Well for me food is certainly a huge problem, but another resource is time, although maybe that's just because I'm kinda sick of my big account. I'd be a bit happier knocking out 20k rams for a siege on some guy if I knew I could reuse most of the rams afterwards. If I lose many thousands of the highest level longest build time (without a mich script) unit it just irks me a lil bit. I know it's a problem with mix and match in this game, but I can't shake the feeling that the top level units should really be a lot better than earlier units.
