Default Should we shout? Should we scream? What happened...

    to the world?

Well you mob.... what do you think screwed the world over? Was it the fear merchant's? the do-gooder's? the hippies/greenies?....

For example I can remember a time not so long ago when parents could smack their kids if they were badly behaved... I was smacked as a child and by well most standards there is nothing wrong with my mind/body as a result of those smacks... I can also remember a time when you could cut down a tree without being hassled because people thought you were killing the world...

We had respect... we had cause... we had an understanding... We had an ability to do things within reason without being judged by society... Another example I was frowned upon the other day for accelerating too fast from the lights... yet a bloke going the other way did a burnout? (the person who frowned upon me was in the same car as myself) I wasnt stupid... I wasnt breaking the law... I just accelerated!... It is this sort of mindset that will make it illegal to exhale loudly... frowned upon to scribble out a mistake on a page... and Heaven forbid that you have a runny nose...

So tell me you mob where did we go wrong? What happened?

To the Post War Dream? heheh bet you thought this was gonna be a Pink Floyd thread...

"IF CABLE HAD BEEN AROUND FOR THE GETTYSBURG ADDRESS"

    Abraham Lincon speaks.

Cable lady: "he mentioned fathers but not mothers, he is shunning women!"
Cable guy: "how much taxpayer money was used on the train ticket"
Other party: " bad move making that speech. it lowered his troops morale"

    BS

this is a joke i was told a few days ago, but it basically says that nowadays people scrutinize to much.

We had ignorance, more than we had anything else. The new generations are pulling the earth's society out of the muck of greed, immorality, and ignorance. It started with hippies, turned into a serious green revolution, and now is seen from the front pages of the newspaper to the darkest depths of the Internet. Little voices starting to gain momentum. I think we've got a chance.
You could argue that it started with science, but, since you were referring to more recent/modern changes...

So, as for what happened, well...
Well what has happened is a gradual improvement of living conditions over the centuries.

The wheels of survival are greased more readily by easy lies than hard truths.

I tend to think on the phrase "one person ruins it for everyone".

Modernization of how we communicate has opened the doors for amazing and wonderful advancements in our society, but it has also helped us shut out some of the most basic and wonderful aspects of our lives.

I do agree with Sick that the little voices are being heard now that the internet has culturally forced a democratic-like system in more than just businesses. People learn and gather information differently than we used to, and respond to it differently as well.

I was spanked as a child and see nothing wrong with it. But I can guarantee if you go searching for cases of spanking on the internet, you'll see some results of actual abuse - images of children from people who took it too far. I think overall those people and those stories due to the "information highway" stick in people's minds. As much as this information opens us up to what's going on around us, human beings by nature tend to force themselves to be black and white. An example of this, if you will:

Since %10 of the people who spank their children end up leaving horrible scars on the child's bottom, nobody has the right to spank a child.

That's more "mob mentality" than anything, and I think we are headed in a direction (in our society) where we are starting to clue into that.

When we take a look at "advancements": Remember Stella Liebeck -vs- McDonalds? Remember the "mob mentality" on that? For years and years people made fun of that woman because of how our blessed news room saw it, and then someone stood up and decided to go "hey, maybe this woman wasn't crazy. Maybe we should investigate further since she won so much money, 3 times as much as she'd asked for".

The fact that people took that information at face value and just went "okay" without asking "did anyone look at the photo of her burns?" or "maybe McDonalds was doing something negligent" , people just took the reports as law.

That to me comes down to human nature. We want the easy answer, not a lot of details. In fact I'm sure half of you have glazed over this post and continued on (because we glaze over things lol). But what gives me hope is seeing even one more person stand up and go "hey, wait a minute..." and think for themselves, ask if maybe there's another side. Thanks to modernization of communication, that's a real possibility in this day and age.

We as a technological generation need to nurture that mindset, ask the hard questions. Then maybe, you'll see spanking make it's way back into homes as a form of acceptable discipline.Or, and just a thought (as this is been ongoing since, I don't know, the dawn of mankind), maybe you'll see people thinking for themselves and not tabooing anything that isn't exactly like them. I certainly have hope that with the "open mindset" of a technological age, with a little work, it can.

Mother do you think they'll drop the bomb?
Mother do you think they'll like this song?
Mother do you think they'll try to break my balls?
    Oooh, ahh
Mother should I build the wall?
Mother should I run for President?
Mother should I trust the government?
Mother will they put me in the firing line?
    Oooh ahh,
Is it just a waste of time?

Hush now baby, baby, don't you cry.
Mama's gonna make all your nightmares come true.
Mama's gonna put all her fears into you.
Mama's gonna keep you right here under her wing.
She won't let you fly, but she might let you sing.
Mama's gonna keep baby cozy and warm.
Ooooh baby, ooooh baby, oooooh baby,
Of course mama's gonna help build the wall.

Mother do you think she's good enough, for me?
Mother do you think she's dangerous, to me?
Mother will she tear your little boy apart?
    Ooooh ah,
Mother will she break my heart?

Hush now baby, baby don't you cry.
Mama's gonna check out all your girlfriends for you.
Mama won't let anyone dirty get through.
Mama's gonna wait up until you get in.
Mama will always find out where you've been.
Mama's gonna keep baby healthy and clean.
Ooooh baby, oooh baby, oooh baby,
You'll always be baby to me.

Mother, did it need to be so high?

I don't know if Jorbaud was trolling or not but the song lyric is relative I think and reminds me of one of the best albums (The Wall) by one of the best bands (Pink Floyd) of all time.

The song relates how the fears of our modern times can create a type of parenting and attitude in society that is intended to keep the children safe but can create walls or barriers around a growing child (or push adult fears into the minds of children) that are not beneficial for the child's full development into a mature, confident and healthy human being.

I myself didn't have this problem because I was raised by dingoes in the bush.

I posted it because it was relative and it was also a Pink Floyd song.
