Realistically, I think armageddon will not be a giant explosion of immediate destruction but rather a collapse of globalization. Mass civil unrest, genocide, starvation, diseases and a breakdown of society will cripple the first world nations. With morality out the window, the remaining military will fight over not just food and water but also trivial pleasures such as alcohol, tobacco and prostitutes.

The only ones immune will be tribal peoples in South America, Africa and islands far from continents. Groups with knowledge and recent experience of consistency farming and isolated from globalization won't have any problems, their world will not change much if at all. But we'll probably all be dead.

There is no way some person can predict when the world will end. Really, I think that after they've said the world will end 99 times, you'd think people would ignore them. But, no, of course not. The only time the world could've ended, was when a World War started, or, the most believable of the 'World is Gonna END!!!' lies, in 2000. I mean, a new century, lots of people must've been scared about the world ending. But really, in 2012, December 21. Really? If the 'Christians' don't fly up into the sky on the 20th, the world isn't going to end.

If they continue to believe or predict the world will end, they'll bound to be right one day. When that day happen, i doubt any of us will be around to here them say, I TOLD YOU SO!

I don't think the world would end, well, depends on ones definition of word ending. I believe more on near human extinction, where few might survive.
However, that is not likely to happen on 2012 or anytime soon.

I agree noone can predict when and how the world will end, however, astromony could tell us if we are heading in that direction like the previous dominant species (dinosuars) before us.
The difference between humans and dinosuars is that we are very capable of preventing or surviving such scenerio if we, the human race work as one in that goal. Unfortunately, not everyone will be saved if such scenerio unfolds.

In our case, they rule because we elected them. Intelligence is kind of second priority to charisma in this situation. Not to suggest they're all stupid, though some politicians haven't left me in admiration of their mental capacity.

Few WILL survive no matter what catastrophe, save the sun exploding or a huge foreign object colliding with our planet. Anything we do to ourselves will leave survivors, whether they be in submarines on islands or in bunkers.
