Honestly speaking, no one exactly knows when the world gonna end. The Mayans only ended their calender. The Meso-Americans---well i hvnt heard of those guys, but im sure tribal people 2000 (or even 200) years ago would not have the means to determine the end of the world.

And maybe its better that noone knows when the world will end. Imagine the epidemic! The panic! The fear! Widespread confusion, riots, you name it! Trade would collapse. Crimes would have a booming period due to the confusion. Technically speaking, all law would be ignored due to the age-old human instinct of self preservation. And WORST OF ALL, there would be these guys,

You are right.
Right now there are several theories about major disasters which is believed that could destroy a large part of the population.
This theory fuel the conspiracy that our government is building an underground base to house only the Elites and their immediate family.

I surely don't want to know if the world will end, but I would like to know if there will be major disasters that, with proper preparation, we might survive from.
Then again, who would want to live in the aftermath where foods is scarce and no evony.

Mesoamericans are Native Americans from Central America. Aztecs and Mayans are the two distinct Mesoamerican groups in history.

There is no way some person can predict when the world will end. Really, I think that after they've said the world will end 99 times, you'd think people would ignore them. But, no, of course not. The only time the world could've ended, was when a World War started, or, the most believable of the 'World is Gonna END!!!' lies, in 2000. I mean, a new century, lots of people must've been scared about the world ending. But really, in 2012, December 21. Really? If the 'Christians' don't fly up into the sky on the 20th, the world isn't going to end.

The 2000 hype was silly in my opinion, besides Y2K. The universe doesn't conform to the Gregorian calendar or humanity's choice of when to start recording history.
