I just have to say, I love this thread.

I´d try to stock up, gather some people ( I think I do need people to watch my back, small group, handfull) and look for a sailboat indeed.
Best shot of getting a boat would be in a city 40km from me, and from there I could go straight to the island.
Ofcourse, in the meantime anything could happen, but best way to survive if you ask me, would be on an island.
There's some islands close enough ( to me) .. 170 km. Seems doable to me.
At least that way you can keep the area safe.
Even if there are some z's there when you get there, just kill em.
Fighting to secure something like a small island would be better than just go on a Chuck Norris killing spree in town.
You could never beat them all if that much.
So withdraw, and find a safe place to stay would be my way..
And the islands I mentioned before are pretty close to land, so it would be easy to go back and hunt for supplies.

A new study shows licking a frog can cure depression.
Down side is, soon as you stop, the frog get depressed again.

    >.<

sorry i disagree, the most important economic factor for a country are peoples trust in the economic system (aka their spending)

may I point out the Great Depression in America?

this started not because of the stock market crash of 1929 but because the banks used these stock as loan collateral, they had very little cash available due to the crash and eventually word got out and millions of citizens rushed to the banks causing them to run out of money and shut down. They then hoarded their money and didn't reenter it into the system by spending, causing the Great Depression. Of course the federal reserves decision to increase the interest rate, lowering/halting the increase of, the money supply was another important factor

but all the same, the people trust in their economic system is a much more important factor than a nation's geography

    nice try

king, the only reason the Great Depression was able to happen is because America (and the rest of the 1st world nations) already had something in place to fail. You can't use that as an example of geography not being in 100% control over a nation's economic strength.

In fact, I'll just turn that example around on you right now. The reason the United States was able to survive the Great Depression was ONLY because of their geography. Compare the United States during the Great Depression with North Korea (which is always in a similar state of a Great Depression). While the United State's economy collapsed, her people were still fed. While the Dust Bowl devastated many farms, the US gov't still could produce food from inside it's own borders to feed it's people. North Korea, doesn't have the same luxury. People starve to death everyday in North Korea because that nation cannot feed itself. It is forced to rely on food aid from other nations, which always come with strings attached mainly aimed at reducing their military power which keeps the nation weak.

    Terrible try on your part.

Geography defines what a nation has to work with. Oil rich nations are rich because they sit on oil. The US was unaffected by the devastation of WWI and WWII because of their distance from the wars. Russia was able to resist both Napoleon and Hitler because of their weather, which is a function of their geography. Islands remained out of touch of the world economy until just recently (~200 years) because of their isolated distance. No other single factor comes close to creating, defining and sustaining a nation's initial economic prosperity and continued success.

Geography is bigger than just capitols and borders. It is the capital that builds a nation. Look at South America. Bolivia, up until the past decade, did not have access to the ocean. As a result, their economy is years behind it's neighbors. Why is Brazil so powerful? Because it's so big. It has room to grow food, room for cattle to graze, lumber to cut down, great amounts of land to fall back to if they were ever invaded. Look at Afghanistan, a nation under attack from it's very beginning. Why does it still exist? Because of it's rugged landscape unexplored by it's aggressors. Afghan people have a place to go hide that makes it impossible to conquer. Look at England, why does it still hold a place on the top of the food chain? Because it went out and conquered other lands. Why is the US more powerful than Canada and Mexico? Because it occupies an ideal area for growing food. Why is Canada more powerful than Mexico? Because it has oil and natural gas. Why is Venezuela more powerful than Cuba? Because it has oil. Why was Egypt able to create pyramids? Because of the Nile. I won't explain this last one, I'll just let you put the pieces together to realize I'm right.

Again, nothing else compares to geography.

The idea of you attempting to tell me what to do is hilarious.

Geography has everything to do with a zombie apocalypse too. While you babies dream your imaginary dreams, I actually have a realistic plan.

raster, I agree with the whole geography thing, no debate can I make that would have a logical ending. so I give you cudo's on that. except the cuba thing, but that would lead into something political, and we shant go there, for want of not breaking the rules of this forum.

I will or can argue the point that dreaming of what one would do, "incase" is a way for the mind to prepare for what could be an eventuality, not Z's perhaps, but total societal breakdown. One must see what are the conditions of travail, to prepare for that travesty. Preparation is the key, not only in obtaining bug out bags, bug out packs, bug out totes, maintaining transportation, storing water, food and what not, but also preparing the mind. The mind is the best survival tool, that human kind possesses.

I would recommend train and train somemore, try out your suvival skills. Take a knife in the woods for three days, and see how you would fare. Or, shut yourself in your apartment for three days, no tv, no lights, dont run the water, things like that. use what you have. Implement a detailed plan, from the things you learn, and collect and keep with you at all times, the basic shtuff you need, that you feel you could of used during your self-taught survival class. Try to boil water using charcoal as a filter to filter out the micro buggs, that can cause you to have the running muckies. Try to sleep in a tree, balancing on a tree branch. Stay fit, and lower your meal size, to get your stomach used to eating very little. Practice all kinds of ways to wash up, without having to use a shower, bath, or sink, or even a water hose. Try stuff, and practice what works for you. In other words, harden yourself, before the event "hardens" you.

I will say this, as a warning to those who prefer melee weapons. Long, sharpen'd edge weapons are a felony in most states, in the US. I know not the laws of other countries, so I speak not to that. Swords, that cool looking battle baseball axe, nun chucks, a taped baseball bat, etc ... all are illegal to possess, and will be confiscated and placed in a green mailbox looking vault, where they will be destroyed at a latter date. Automatic weapons are illegal, to possess, unless you have a FFL. Improvised explosive devises are illegal to possess. I would recommend, that all be careful. Wisdom comes from experience, so take it from a wise one. Prepare, but do it in a legal way. You do want to be on the outside of a prison, should the Zombs come by for dinner.

dabest? no the lab is in texas.

Fresh? thankyou, I was looking for ways to fortify a fort, and came accross how the marines do it in Afstan.

    thats true.

and i see your point on geography now, but I do have one statement to make on something you said.

you said that no one in the US was starving during the Great Depression (or at least more than average), that's not true. Around 30% of America was suffering from, at least, minor starvation.

while its true most didnt die from it, that doesnt take away from the fact that starvation was rampant during the Great Depression
