They pretend to be happy, expect everyone to be happy, as if it not normal to be happy during the rest of the year. I'm not just talking about my family. I'm talking about everyone. how? if i only have to see this person a few times a year I could care less whether or not they have a "happy" life. as long as they don't bum me out during the short period of time we are forced to share.

i.e. If you didn't care about them you wouldn't be spending the holidays with them.

my post was not specific, i was saying that if "someone" has family members that are unhappy then those family members should not express that in an inappropriate manner at a festive event, don't turn this around to make me look bad

kingray, so what you're saying....

You don't care at all about the health and well being of your family. You don't want to know anything about their personal life or how they are doing. You just want to briefly interact with them, then move on your way and not consider their existence again til next December?

You sound like an awesome friend/relative.
