Default Alliance Merges Why So Hard

Who will have which position ? The best person for the task. If you do not then the newer alliance will be at risk, or at least more risk

Alliance name. : The alliance name we have is so special and so magic it needs to be kept. Why ?

If your alliance is slowly being drained of cities and players are positions and names all that important ?

Best wishes to those who were in ICECOLD, MERC, HONOR on 131, SOLACE on 144, thePack2 on 158

People want to keep their sense of identity --- be assured that they were doing things right. In my opinion, if it is a mutual thing, talk about it - if you are absorbing a failed alliance, too bad, they should be happy to have a home at all.

yes, i think they are, its a war game not musical chairs, you start a alliance with great hopes and expectations, its hard to let go of them.

you have to fight over every last thing, else its pointless merging,
with a roll over and merge attitude, wont be long til you merge again when the next bit trouble comes

just my line of thought on it

R.I.P Cheapskates and poorly Peasants alike, may our sh!tty heros lead our armies with great courage and valour in place of gear and attack points

Ehh, no. The problem with a join or die policy is that once they join, your new members have absolutely no affinity towards your alliance. If you do this enough times, eventually your alliance will have more players who don't care about the direction of the alliance or want to be there than those who do.

Not really so relevant in the early game where alliance relationships aren't so close-knit and people don't really know each other, but in the late game, recruiting too many people who didn't want to join you can cause a toxic environment.

I'm going to give people a history lesson that they really won't want but tough luck. How did the nazi's gain power in the beginning? They struck fear into the hearts of anybody who dared oppose them and that is what the alliance join or die policy is, the idea you give your enemies that its my way or the high way. However this is a short fix, sure it may get you the members early on but as Abdiel said they will have no loyalty towards you or the alliance you run, how did the nazi's keep control of everybody once they got it? Propaganda, they made people believe they were in the right while everybody else was in the wrong and they did this by controlling everything that went on around them. Fear is a short term fix, Earning people's loyalty and trust as an alliance is the long term fix, once people want to be lead by you then it is much easier to make them join. To the OP, why are merges hard? Because host's, vices and presbyters are unwilling to give up a position, until people realise it is better to have a small stake in something big rather than a large stake in something very small they will refuse the merge until they have no other choice, remember the Nazi's got very votes in the beginning, they only took power when they became the only feasible option in the eyes of the population and until an alliance realises they have no other choice they are unlikely to merge.
Boring post I know but history can teach us a lot, that said I hate the subject with a passion.

The only time you would want to merge alliances is early in the game! once the server is matured, you dont need more than the ppl you started with....14 ppl run Na12 (but that being said we dont have server mergers in A2)

alliance mergers always suck and if youve beaten an alliance why on earth would you want those weaklings with you? just invite people into your alliance on an individual basis so a bad player cant hide behind the 20 good players he came with
hey! youre the tvrd im just the fly thats attracted to you
